Default Portable gun lock box

For those times that you need to lock the gun up in the car, these come with a cable to attach them to the vehicle without bolting them down. They can also be used to transport guns that are not on your license. If you buy the package deal, they are keyed alike. I have four of them and only need to carry one key.

Default Secure storage

I have been using the secure storage boxes for about a year now and believe they are a great value.
I ordered 4 boxes as well, 2 ea. of the sizes and keep one in my truck and my wifes truck at all times so they are available whenever I need to disarm and secure my carry firearm.
May not be the perfect answer, but defiantly a viable means of storage that still discourage all but the most sincere thief.

So if a thief broke in to your car, they would really need a set of bolt cutters to get the lock box out, correct? Then they would have a pretty hard time getting into the box.

Yes, the cable is coated stainless steel. It is hard to tell but I think it is 1/4 inch, maybe 3/16 under the coating. And then they have to deal with the box. But if they get the cable cut, they can just leave with the box as it is fairly compact.

Two are on the way to me. Thanks

What is the law here in regards to having ammo locked in the box with the gun? Can we do that here in CA? Of do they have to be seperated no matter what?

I would separate them regardless of the law. I put my gun in the box, and my mag in the pouch behind the passenger seat. I can reach both from the driver's seat.

NO! Ammo in the same locked container is loaded.

Why not? What law would it violate?

12026.1. (a) Section 12025 shall not be construed to prohibit any
citizen of the United States over the age of 18 years who resides or
is temporarily within this state, and who is not within the excepted
classes prescribed by Section 12021 or 12021.1 of this code or
Section 8100 or 8103 of the Welfare and Institutions Code, from
transporting or carrying any pistol, revolver, or other firearm
capable of being concealed upon the person, provided that the
following applies to the firearm:
(1) The firearm is within a motor vehicle and it is locked in the
vehicle's trunk or in a locked container in the vehicle other than
the utility or glove compartment.
(2) The firearm is carried by the person directly to or from any
motor vehicle for any lawful purpose and, while carrying the firearm,
the firearm is contained within a locked container.
(b) The provisions of this section do not prohibit or limit the
otherwise lawful carrying or transportation of any pistol, revolver,
or other firearm capable of being concealed upon the person in
accordance with this chapter.
(c) As used in this section, "locked container" means a secure
container which is fully enclosed and locked by a padlock, key lock,
combination lock, or similar locking device.
This section states a locked container 'in' a vehicle. Also, if you permanently attach a container to the vehicle I would think it could be argued that it falls under 'other than the utility or glove compartment' as actually then being a utility compartment.

Not worth the risk when a simple cable lock can secure the box non permanently.

Understood, thank you. This safe is actually seperate from it's mounting plate. It is attached to the plate temporarily by a metal bar which is inserted through the open safe door and secures the safe to the mounting plate (see the web site gallery picture "3"). However, when the door is open it is no longer a "locked container" and it would have to be attached to or removed from the mounting plate while parked on one of the exempt locations listed in 12026 PC. Whether or not it would qualify as a utility box as described above I don't know.

It comes with two mounting plates. I have one attached to the bed frame and haven't yet decided how to use the second.

Edit: A cable could always be inserted through the mounting holes in the back of the safe for another method of securing it to a vehicle if the above statute caused anyone concern. What a shame, that a law could cause, IMO, a superior method of security against theft (bolted to the car floor) to be avoided.

I agree... would love to mount something solid in the car... but the law doesn't allow. I wonder if the slide mount is considered "permanent".
