They are really working out good. The box is great! The cable is a little cheazy. Well worth the money. I got several keyed a like. One key opens four of them.

Yeah, we like them too...keep one in each vehicle. The box could be a little stronger, and the cable thicker, but for the price, they are OK.

You can slide the box into a briefcase or your backpack for a quick and legal way to transport, does not scream "gun" and is safe from clueless or children. Very handy items to have.

I've had mine for about 6 months now. I like it too. I have one in the bedroom and the other I use for transporting.

Can you carry one in your backpack in a case like that? maybe with a CCW, but I don't know if joe blow non-ccwer can. I seem to remember something about not being allowed to carry in your backback...

Yes, chapter 2, "How to own a gun & stay out of jail". Unloaded, locked in a container is legal to transport. No mention is made of the locked container is an another container--it still is a locked container, and meets the legal requirement for being transported, both by the letter and spirit--you cannot quickly or easily access the gun.

A lot of people put a locked guncase into their range bag for transportation, its the same situation. IANAL, so if i am wrong, please correct me.

took recent class put on by Sheiff's dept. they had on hand lock boxes for the vehicle or truck that were either mountable, cable locked or with more than one mounting plate for multiple vehicles or bed and car....they recommended the box and they use it in their car. It was a CCW class. IMHO i think that is good enough for me to be able to mount it.

I have been using the center of mass lock box for the last year. I love it I was weary about the cable. Since I have the box located under the front seat attached through the seat frame it is out of sight. Someone would have to seriously be tearing the car apart to find it. I have the cable wrapped though the seat frame so much the box only moves out enough to open the enough to place my gun into it.

So I'm considering one of these in the combo lock variety. If I bought from center-of-mass I would buy the long hinge, but while looking at reviews for others I came across Gunvault's:

http://www.amazon.com/Gunvault-Nano-...NV300-Standard

Which looks identical to the center-of-mass original combo lock. Dimensions are the same, just wondering if anyone knows if there's any difference of quality. (Center-of-mass sells other gunvault products as well, thus making me wonder if they're the same)

I was looking on Amazon this afternoon and noticed the same thing. I ended up ordering three of what c-o-m would call the large box, but with the short hinge. No option for keying alike this way, but I figure I can replace the lock later if I decide to. These were listed as being made by Secure-It I think. They all look the same though and these had good reviews including one where the owner spent 45 minutes breaking in to one of his.

I figure it will be enough for a typical smash&grab since most people wouldn't be carrying bolt/cable cutters or the like unless they were looking for this sort of thing. And if the car is stolen, well, not much can be done about that.

Default the strongest out there

the club co same folks that make the club for locking your steering wheel and brake pedal, makes the best, thickest,h-d lock, hardened cable, round vault key and lock available, we (our club) tried 5 different makes and found this to be, by far the best of the small portable, valuables lock boxes,,instead of the vernable clam shell type box, the club uses a recessed sliding drawer style, way stronger!! check them out, just go to the club web sight, well priced too!!p.f.

I use one of these...available at Harbor Freight for about $15. It has a 3 wheel combo lock.
