Cable is the safest and easiest why to do it. The mounting plate would confuse most officers. They would let the DA decide.

I think you guys are reaching a bit on the description of a utility or glove box. You are saying that the box can be laying in the back seat and be OK but if it is secured with a bracket then it is illegal. The only problem is having to open the safe to secure it to the bracket. If they could overcome that problem it would be everything CA needs to secure a gun in a vehicle. If you use this for securing a carry gun then it would not matter about opening it in public.

What you are dealing with is California law. It does not have to be logical or reasonable. Listen to CCWI, he knows what he is talking about. He can help you stay out of trouble.

I remember this topic from TOS...

So there's some snipit in the law about loaded gun in locked box being illegal...ok except if you are present with your CCW...

And...unless you give permission for an officer to look in your locked box...he/she will need a warrant with probable cause to go call a judge and get one.... And even if they looked or got the warrant...you are valid and legal because you have a permit and you're there.

So the only time I can see this being an issue...is if your car was stolen with the loaded gun in that box.

What District Attorney is going to charge you with...it? ...............None.

In my opinion of course....but I'm not a lawyer...so maybe I'm only "half right"...again. beats me.

This is why DOJ is out to lunch. Permanent for one thing may or may not constitute permanent for another.

For example currently, for AW's, permanent means you need tools and time to remove a fixed magazine.

By Cato's description of how this box is secured to the body of the vehicle, no tools, and a negligible amount of time is required to un-secure it. You simply open the box and with your hand, remove a bar.

However, CCWI's assertion that this is one of those things that will end up likely being argued with the DA is also correct.

I just ordered some of these boxes. Delivery was fast. I had them within 4-5 days of placing my order. I would recommend these to anyone I know.

I have a couple...ones under my bed, cabled to the frame, the other I travel with, or use to take my gun to the range. Mine are keyed alike!

I just purchased two large Secure-It® Handgun Storage Safe (Product: WX2-105432) from Sportsmans Guide. They were $29.97 each. Customer service said they had no macthing keys for my pair but have over 100 in stock. Price is good through July. If you enter coupon code "SPG2110" at checkout, you receive an additional $5.00 off. My total with shipping: $64.93. That's $20.00 less than buying directly through Center of Mass Central.

I ordered two boxes from sportsmanguide, BTW, the boxes were same size as the large size box for center-of-mass product, at club prices and low and behold, the keys were identical for both. So if you have not received them yet, you might get lucky and end up with matching keys.

Default I use this

I always have to leave my trunk lid open at Airport or Hotel for Skycap and Bellmen.

I was looking for gun case and I almost buy same ones from Sportsman's guide.

I bought this instead because it doesn't look like gun case
(I don't want to show to Hotel bellman or Airport skycap that I have gun case in my trunk)
and lock is combination
(So, I don't have to worry about carrying key)
I tie it with wired comination lock like bicycle lock to trunk or passenger's seat frame.
but I'm still thinking to buy same one as you are talking about because it looks thinner.
Mine is 9" thick. It's little too bulkey to put it behind or under seat.

They now out of stock for this item but they have similar item with inexpensive price.

Just for your Info

Anyone know of a box like that with a non-key lock? Pushbutton, combination, thumbprint, whatever?
