Hmm, you sure it's by box of 50? Their .223 was by box of 40 AFAIK, would expect the same for the x39. $12.78 for 50rds of Winchester 7.62x39 isn't bad at all. Hope you didn't get Dieter3's hope too high...

BTW, Dieter3, you are looking for 7.62x39 to shoot in what gun? If you have Mini-30 I can understand, but if you are shooting out of SKS, then you are wasting your hard earn $$, just a thought. Russian rounds for Russian guns!!

Yeah, SKS it is, but if it REALLY can be had for $12-$13/40 - 50 rounds, I'd rather use the brass than the steel. I know, they were built for steel-cased rounds, it's a mental thing. Plus I might end up reloading one of these days....

I bought 2 boxes (100ea box) of #8 12gauge from HB Wallyworld (for Greg's shotgun class) and I had a similar reaction to the guy at the register. He said they were not returnable because Walmart feared they would be used for killing people. I said if I was going to use that on someone (yeah right, #8 shot!) the last thing I would be worried about is returning it. The look on the guy's face was priceless. I could tell he was anti-gun.
its funny because i buy my ammo from wally world a lot, and i get that reaction all of the time on the way to the range. I ask "I would like four boxes of .45, 4 boxes of #8 shot, a brick of .22, and two boxes of .38". Usually the reply is something to the effect of either "huh you want what?" or "damn dog that is a lot of bullets who you gonna kill?" (yes i have actually had that response!).... maybe that is a lot of ammo for one purchase, but the person actually going to kill doesnt need that much ammo.

lol, when I go to WM to buy, it is WAAAYYYY more than that. Usually a case or two of 45 acp, 4-5 boxes of buck, 5-10 boxes of 38 sp +P or 357 and few boxes of 270 or 44 mag. I have to get a cart everytime as there is no way I an carry it.

They usual guy there is a shooter, so he is cool about it.

Well, I found out to not go to WalMart near closing time to buy ammo. The regular person is probably already gone. It took them 20 minutes to find someone who could find the keys. Ten minutes later, I grabbed some random employee for some help. I think he was one of the night crew, because he was pulling some pallets out of the back.

He found the keys, right by the register, and helped me out. First time for me, he asked me if this was for a pistol. (I was getting .40 cal and nobody ever asks me that question). I said no, so he asked what was it for. I said my MP5 (this didn't phase him). He asked if that was a rifle. I said, no it's an SMG. He said what's that. I told him it was between a pistol and a rifle. He then said he needed to see my ID anyway. I guess they check for pistols, but not for rifles Anyway, I had some fun for them making me wait so long and this guy had no clue. This was at the HB store.

I found that out at the one in Orange the other day. The two cool guys I usually deal with were not there. I had to run down someone who had a key. 5 Boxes of .40, 5 boxes of Buck, a brick of 22 and a box of 30.06. Much less than what I normally get.

Well he had to call up another person to actually ring it up. When she arrived he goes "this gentleman would like to buy a WHOLE LOT of ammo".

Default Wal Mart Ammo.

Some Wal Mart stores up here in the SF Bay are not carrying ammo.

Fremont isn't, but Milpitas is.

In the central valley, Fresno and Los Banos stores are still carrying ammo.

For what it is worth Clerks at various stores have been friendly and socialable.
I tell them that I run a shooting group and I'm buying bulk ammo, hell, I even invite them.

But I am making preparations to be reloading my own her in the next few months.

The ammo bills are bad, but unlike other things, ammo keeps for a long time.

Just got back. YEP THEY DID!

9 MM $15.72 WWB 100 was $14.56
40 S&W $21.88 WWB 100 was $19.98
45ACP $28.98 WWB 100 was $26.XX

I picked up 20 boxes of Blazer Brass 45ACP that was still $10.97 "50 rounds"

They had 7 boxes left. No Blazer Brass 9MM or 40 S&W in stock.

They also had green Remington boxes "50 rounds" in all calibers. They came out to slightly less than WWB value packs at this time.

This was in the store in Orange. I had the lady who did not know what she was doing dig under the counter for the hidden stash. She was very nice. They only had 4 boxes on the shelf.

Whenever I drive by a Wal Mart, I go in and clean them out. I've been shooting a lot of .45ACP, bird, buck, and slug. Also, I've got a rifle on the way so I've been cleaning them out of .223.

And when I clean them out, I'm buying all of that. I've never had any issues whatsoever.

One old guy is quite amused with my constant visits and large orders. He said "What do you do with all this sh*t", and I just responded "I'm ready". He got a kick out of that.

I'm in Nevada usually once a month, so if they start acting like jerks around here, I'll spend my money over there. The Wal Mart I go to out there always has a huge inventory of everything, as this location sells more ammo than any other Wal Mart in the nation.
