Default B & B Gun Sales

Does anyone know why this place closed down? They had 2 locations one in Westminster and another in Van Nuys. Two brothers owned it; Bob and Barry. It was a great gun shop.

B&B was the best gun store in So Cal... won't find another place like that anymore. From what I understand, they were shut down due to some missing paperwork.

B&B was the place that provided AR's to the No Hollywood police after tehy were outgunned in the NoHo bank robbery.

Now, it is a carwash. I watched them tear it down. Very sad. (NoHo location) It was on Oxnard St, just a block and half from the 170.

I heard it had more to due with charging more than what was allowed on fees in addition to some other issues like some missing paperwork.

I remember that, can you imagine the PD having to go to a gun shop to get more fire power and were not talking about Mayberry PD here this is the LAPD. I wonder what the outcome would have been in the NH shoot out if B&B had not been around!!! and the city was probably happy when they went out of business.

I used to make regular trips to the Westminster (Fountain Valley?) store. Looked more like a bunker on the outside, but the inside was much more interesting.

The "official" answer I was given years ago about them shutting down had to do with their low-margin-high-volume sales tactics. Firearms sales peaked in the mid-late 90's (if I remember correctly), then dropped off quite dramatically and they couldn't stay afloat.

CCWI told me the real story, which is, of course, more complicated. I don't remember the details, but there was a problem with paperwork, one of the brothers did something rather unbrotherly to the other, and general badness ensued. The sales drop-off might have been a secondary factor, I suppose.

Great find! Fun old article, my favorite line:

"There are $1,500 gold-plated target pistols and $4,000 contraptions that look like mass-killing machine guns from an Arnold Schwarzenegger movie but, in fact, are nothing more than perfectly legal rifles incapable of firing more than one round at a time."

I still can't believe they didn't take shotguns with slugs, or the 460 Weatherby instead of the puny ARs....

At the point you realize the bad guys are wearing vests, why wouldn't you grab something in .300WM or .338 Lapua and just be done with it?

Still, I miss B&B. When they were around, they were the only gun store I bought from. One of the managers is now at US Safe; great people to deal with.

Maybe they were concerned about the collateral damage from stray rounds. Sounds kinda funny in the context, I know. Maybe they were buying into the black rifle mindset, unconsciously giving the ARs more credit than they deserved in the situation. Or maybe B&B didn't have anything more powerful. Or maybe B&B didn't want the police taking the expensive weaponry.

Or maybe they just went with their training? You know, kind of like the LEO that was found shot, but had put all the empty brass in his pocket like he had done at the range? Not a slap, I'm just thinking that due to the stressful situation, maybe that was what happened.
