I bought my first mini safe around 92... it worked okay but eats through batteries like crazy and it does not have non volatile memory. The electronics died on me around 96 and used it as a keyed lock box for a few years.
I bought 2 more of the mini safe last year... the new model DOES have non volatile memory so no need to reprogram... and it seems to be easier on the battery. I do plug both of mine in the wall so it always work... until... a blackout.
I do agree a mechnical safe is a all around better safe with less potiential problems. But elecronic safe is just so much easier. For the same reason... I hardly open my mechnicalbig safes anymore... moved most of my stuff over to the new Cannon with electronic keypad.
