Default Gunshot first aid - where to learn in California?

Where could a person go to learn how to perform first aid for gunshot wounds?

I would like to get some training on the basics of how to use a "blow out kit". I hunt and shoot at the range alot. It is kind of silly not to have this skill set.

Not sure what a "Blow out kit" is but the initial management of any traumatic event are the old ABCs. Airway, Breathing, Circulation. Manage blood loss, treat for shock, manage fractures, and transport. Get medical attention ASAP. Take a good CPR or even an advanced class.

BTW, Kotex pads are excellent for wound compression, and for covering the eyes, and usually can be found at every camp site.

Hope this helped.

I have seen a course like this listed, but I can't recall where. I'll try to locate it.

Tactical Medicine.com has some really good courses, but you need to be an EMT or higher or LE to take their classes. But if you are an EMT, you probably already know how to take care of a gunshot wound.

International School of Tactical Medicine-

I'd recommend you check out the First Aid or EMT courses offered at Link2Life in Mission Viejo. I received my EMT-B certification from there.

Link 2 Life provides training courses in CPR, first aid, EMT, and emergency preparedness, safety, life saving, diaster training, 1st aid, education, emergency rescue

I received some dissent first aid training in the Army. I will never forget the first aid for a sucking chest wound. But what right2defend said is most of it unless you get into full blown out combat and need to worry about lost limbs, chemical warfare and nuclear contamination. For those you need the right drugs (morphine and atropine) and for some chemical warfare, if you get exposed to one of the chemicals that do not have an antidote,,,well,,, nuf said. Then you have the proper training for the different nuclear contamination you may face at the various distances from the center of the explosion.

There is a lot to first aid but as right2defend said for gun shot wounds, pressure and get them help asap. Get a good CPR class (I need to renew/update also) and take some first aid classes. Something is always better than nothing. Also remember to be the person who reacts to the need of first aid. I remember in one class were I was told that in a lot of cases people will stand around waiting for someone who knows more than they do to help the person in need,

I commend you on looking for first aid training I believe we all should have first aid training.

Dont ya love youtube “Blow out Kit” YouTube - BOK, Blow Out Kit for Militia Patriot Training against NWO

Learn good Advanced First Aid or take an EMT course and then take the PHTLS combined provider course. They teach both EMT's and Paramedics in that course and you'll learn a LOT from that course. I'm a Paramedic who's PHTLS certified. The Military version goes a bit beyond that course... but that covers other things like blast injuries, battlefield care techniques (care while under fire), rendering aid in an NBC environment... and so on. A PHTLS trained Paramedic could quickly get up to speed if that Paramedic had to function in that environment. Unfortunately for most Military Medics, they just don't have the medical training to deal with the variety of issues that exist in the general population. IOW, most don't know much about ACLS/PALS and AMLS issues. They're fantastic, though, in dealing with traumatic injuries!!! This is NOT to say that the same is true for ALL Military members that do medical work in the field. There are MANY that are trained to being basically PA's and Paramedics... and may be certified as such.

Doc - you know exactly where you stand in my book!

Last Man Standing does training. In fact, my range is doing one April 19th... which is unfortunately past. BUT... they offer training all over the place at various times:
LMS Defense
My understanding is that it's pretty intense and in depth. It's also $200. They even tell you what to do if there's a brain injury (which I would assume would be... pray that it is instantly fatal?).

I was one of the instructors for that course in YC. There WILL be more to follow! Watch out for an announcement soon.
