You'll end up spending another thousand bucks in his Pro Shop ammo. I get all that guys stuff, too. He's a pretty aggressive marketer, but I'd probably do it if my circumstances were right. The place looks kind of fun, right?

Been there...

I enjoyed the training... and after 4 days of instruction and about 1200 rounds down range, I left there a lot better shot. The shooting/training part of Front Sight is pretty good, and, it was a fun 4-day weekend.

Last I checked, you can find certificates on Ebay allowing you to take the 4 day class for about $125 - $150. But... in addtion to the certificate, there's a $50.00 back ground fee. Then there's 4 days hotel, meals, and travel to Nevada. All said and done, it's going to cost you several hundred dollars...

If it's just training you want... There are local guys who can give you the same or better training for a lot less out of pocket expense.

If you're looking for a mini vacation... say to get away and hang out with a gun strapped to your hip, then Front Sight can be fun.

One last thing to consider... Going there is a little like going to a vacation time share property. They will try to sell you a membership... and will try every day you're there... and will continue to sell you after you come home...

Also, they can come across a tiny bit "cultish." Don't get me wrong... I don't think they are a clut... but.... they are VERY sure they are "right" in every thing they do... That includes training, their position of gun rights and second amendmendment related issues. I did get the feel they take the approach that you are either "with us or against us." And if you disagree with anything, then, you're obviously against them... (Just my opinion)

Finally... don't get me started on Pizza. He's all about selling memberships and growing his company... In my opinion EVERYTHING he does is driven by selling his business.

Buy your own gun... buy your own holster... and get the certificate off ebay... It's a lot cheaper then his get a gun free program... His program only makes sense if you value his training at $2000 (his figure.) If you do the math and fugure the ebay certificates, you can beat his numbers by a lot...

just my $0.02... and prolly not worth even that much!

We just had a new gun shop open up recently in Eureka across from Denny's. Very nice selection of firearms, but the prices are through the roof and he sells very few accessories, if any. He makes the other dealers prices look like Wal-Mart prices.

I walked in and looked around with a friend of mine. If I was to try to buy anything in there I would have needed a bank loan. I'm sure he is playing on peoples' fears of losing gun rights to keep his prices so high. the guy behind the counter did not really acknowledge us either or try to sell anything which kind of bothereed me so we left. My friend who was with me said the same thing I am saying here. Anyone else visit this shop yet?

I get the same Front Sight promos. They are a major sponsor with USCCA and a couple of other groups. I've also seen the certificates available on Ebay for as low as $100.

IMHO Front Sight offers compressed training while I prefer to gain a set of skills, practice and then go back for the next skillset thereby building a foundation. I think that trying to reinforce four days of training with range practice would be too large of a piece to bite off and new skills will be lost while breaking the training into one-day chunks is easier to gain and retain new skills.

Consider the training offered by Fire Arms Training starting with basic, intermediate, advanced training to develop the skills over a span of time. Then offering the opportunity to work on specialty skills. With the intervening time between sessions one can practice, reinforce and make the training their skills. (yes, I owe me a couple more sessions)

That's just my opinion based on 15+ years of adult training (teaching USAF pilots and fighter pilots).

Have not been to that store but in my CCW class 2 weeks ago another student needed some 44 mag ammo (yes, he was putting this huge 6 to 8 inch 44 mag on his permit) he drove up to that store and was charged $50.00for a box of 25.

1 'grey training certificate' can be used by 2 people taking the same class together for 2 days each instead of 1 person for 4 days. The training is good, the days are long and I saw even complete beginners come away with a lot of confidence and new skills but retail price is very high. A large part of their training relies on dry fire practice to reduce your time to draw and fire after the class (of course).

My biggest issue is having a private entity run my "criminal background" and then charge me for it.
I wonder if they are even running them or just collecting the $50.00. After having a ccw for many years in California I think I have been checked out enough thank you.

They're checking data base sources. Their cost is $10-20 bucks. The data bases cover about 13 counties and only provide a case number. The records have to be pulled from the court to see what the case actually is. Most counties don't report.

People think they're getting something, but they're not.

I guess I don't need to start a new thread on this. I clicked the link off TT Gunleather's website and browsed the Front Sight website for over an hour. The "free" XD in .45 when you take the 4 day course plus 1 day CCW class sort of makes the $1,199 price tag seem worth it. The gun itself is $600.

Of course I would like to hear much more about the training. My sister lives in Vegas so I would be accomidated albeit have to drive an hour each way everyday.

I'm open to any and all reputable instructors in or around Orange County with reasonable prices that can provide me with top notch CCW training (i.e. drawing from concealment, double taps into center mass from a holstered weapon "in 1.5 seconds", shoot vs. don't shoot scenarios and how to deal with the police, DA and civil liability, etc.)

I can shoot just fine at the range where you are not allowed to draw. I will need the training in order to feel comfortable carrying.

My pepper spray, stun gun and wrestling/martial arts training just don't stand up to firearms and likely edged weapons either!

Any recommendations in addition to Firearms Training Institute? I'd like to personally speak with instructors at each facility before making a decision.

Thanks guys. This site and its members REALLY are the best source of information on concealed carry.

If in LA, SD or Orange County I would just stay local. You can train with our own CCWInstructor or even others in the area. There is plenty of great training at a reasonable cost here locally. why spend the money on travel, hotels, food, etc.. IMHO

I ran across the site a few months back... probably while looking for holsters. They seem to be legit according to folks I know from their area...

It's all a question of whether it's worth it. I go out of state so rarely, it doesn't seem like it would be. Plus, if you're in Nevada, you can supposedly carry in your car (in the glove box). I've been in Nevada maybe three times in my adult life, so that isn't worth it. Even with the "free gun," it isn't worth it.
