Default UT CCW Instructors in N. Cal

I put together a list with all my notes about UT CCW instructors in N. Cal for my Dad... then I thought you guys might be able to benefit from my effort also. I figured since DocAmentler is sometimes off killing terrorists, we need a list of other instructors we can use when he's in Iraq.

If you guys have any to add to the list, please do. Or have taken a course and would like to add your perspective on the value of the instruction, please do.

Local (or close to it) UT Instructors:

Of course, the first on the list is the Doc:
Name: Jim (AKA DocAmentler at calccw.com) at Alpha Safety Training, Marine, currently back from Iraq - Plenty of very positive posts on this forum (and how cool would it be to get trained by a Marine?) Jim would have been my first choice, but I couldn't make it work with my schedule.
Site: Alpha Safety Training - CCW Training Schedule
Cost: $100, I'm not sure what all is included for the price (i.e. range time, etc...)

I took the course from Kelly Main. She is based out of Sparks, but will do a class in Sac every month or two. I didn't find anything special about the class, but it satisfied the requirement for the CCW and was really the only class that worked for my crazy work schedule this month. She also waives the shooting portion of the class with a current CA CCW.
Site: Armed and Safe - Home
Cost: $50 at Sheel's in Reno, or $80 in CA. She also offers other "services" at the class. $20 for fingerprinting, $10 for a notary, $10 for the picture (which was pretty crappy, don't waste your money). I call it the "Super Size" addition to the class. It was convenient to have everything done at the end of class, but quickly turned an $80 class into a $120 class... and $145 if you needed the range time.

Lee McGriff, associated with Lincoln Rifle Club
Site: RavenTree International
Cost: $80 + range fees

The last two are from my notes from almost a year ago, so I don't know if it is accurate anymore:
Dave Hockaday, Portola, CA
Only offers the class on Sundays. When I spoke with him last year, he was offering the class for $30 on the 2nd Sunday of every month. I would have taken it for the shear savings factor, but Sundays just don't work for me.
Contact: 530-283-5674

Peter Koch at 530.363.5400
Peter Koch Associates - CCW Courses
2nd sat every month
start on range in morning, then do course at Denny's in afternoon
$100 for CA
$200 for UT (all inclusive) would cut a $50 discount to combine both on same day

We do seem to get a fair number of inquiries about UT CCW instructors up in your neck of the woods. Good information. Thanks.

You forgot Jones Fort gun shop in Redding on your list.
Marshall Jones Sr is the instructor.

I got my Utah permit through the All you need is your drivers license and social security card. They do everything there.

Dave Hockaday moved from Plumas County to Wellington Nevada about six months ago.

An updated phone number is: 775-465-9189

He still frequents this area and continues to provide Utah training.

Thanks guys for the feedback and updates. There is also a guy that advertises on California Predators Club Forums (308fan - Aaron, I think) as a UT instructor. I believe he is local (No. Cal), but I'm not sure. Does anyone have info on him?

Yes, Aaron is a former student of mine. He is in the Napa area, but travels to do classes. He also advertises on Calguns.

Just a note on this. I am not a Marine, but proudly serve with them. I am a U.S. Navy Corpsman who has been on the "green side" (Marines) for almost my entire career. While my 1st Sgt tells me that I am far more "Jarhead" than "Squid", I am in the Navy. I get to shoot, blow things up AND fix broken Marines! What better job is there?!

S/F!

So is it true that the Navy calls helicopters "Helo's", the Army calls them "Choppers", the Air Force calls them "Whirley Birds"
and the Marines... they just point at the sky and say "ooooh Oooooh ooooh Oooooooooh"?

Sorry, couldn't resist

Hey... Navy, Marines... either way, it still adds to the "cool" factor of the class (not to mention you get to blow things up). I'm sorry my schedule didn't work to attend.

Any chance you could expound a bit on what you have to offer in your class? I've already taken mine, but I have a few friends that are looking for a class soon.

BTW, those of you interested in Lee McGriff's class, he is offering one at the Lincoln range on 3/21 at 9AM.

No problem. Sometimes schedules don't work out. I'm glad that you got the class in though. How long has it been since you sent in your paperwork?

Absolutely! The $100 is the class fee but does include a bound class manual, drinks (water, coffee, soda) and food (when we go through a meal time we provide sandwiches usually from Subway or similar and snacks determined by my fantastic wife). There is no range time required for the Utah course, but if someone wants or needs to get some in there is a charge of $25. I also do passport photos, notary and fingerprinting. They are $10 each or $25 for the 3 services. I used to do the class in 4 hours, but have so much information to pass that I have upped it to 5 hours. I'd rather get done a little early than get you out a little late.

After the class you just need to put the following in an envelope and mail it to Utah BCI:

- Photocopy of the front side of your drivers license
- Check, money order, credit or debit card number for $65.25 for your FBI background check and 5 year permit fee
- Signed, stamped, notarized application
- One fingerprint card
- One passport photo

Let me know if there is any other info that I can provide for you.

V/R,

Doc

BTW, I will be CONUS for at least the next year possibly two depending on how things work out in Afghanistan and deployments.
