Thanks for the class details Doc... I'm sure that will help people who are still looking to take the class (and now I know what I missed ).

I sent my paperwork in on 3/9/09 certified mail. Confirmed deliverd on 3/12/09. I still have not seen a charge to my card.

It's taking 3-4 weeks for them to charge the cards or cash the checks. Quite a few application rolling through there.

Default Utah Instructors in California

The following link, <http://publicsafety.utah.gov/bci/documents/insoutstate_048.pdf> will take you to the Utah Dept of Public Safety's CCW web page that has all the certified out of state Utah CCW instructors listed. There is a little over a page and a half for California based instructors. Over a hundred instructors. Some are active and some just want it on their resume. YMMV. This web page is updated as instructors drop off or are added.

They also have a page listing revoked instructors. If your, or a friend's, instructor is there contact Utah and find out if it affects your CCW.

If you would like to become a Utah CCW Instructor then start here <http://publicsafety.utah.gov/bci/documents/CFinstructor_001.pdf>

Larry Church, contacted through BAYPROFS index, is a Utah CCW instructor in the San Jose Bay Area.

Thanks for the link. I actually started with the list from the BCI site by area code, but not all instructors on the list answered my call/e-mail. So, if you're a No Cal instructor on the PDF, but not on this thread or you know of one, please post it.

BTW, my CC was charged by BCI on 3/25, so I guess that means I should have the permit by June. Just in time for a trip I was planning.

Hi All. I would like to say I am a Utah CCW Instructor available for the Northern California area. I try to stay out of the greater Sacramento area just so I don't step on DocAmentler's toes. I was a student of his in the past. He puts on a good class! If your wanting a Utah CCW and not in Doc's area just let me know and I will get a class together for you. Thanks!
Aaron

Hi folks,

I'm a Utah CCW instructor. I normally teach at TargetMasters in Milpitas and from time to time at 10th Street in San Jose.

You can get class details here.

You can register here.

If you have questions, ask away...

For those of you that were asking, my UT permit showed on on 6/18 so just under 90 days from when my CC was charged. It took over 3 months from when I mailed it out.

I have a couple of questions on the Utah CCW.
1. Do they require qualifying at the range?
2. Do they require you to take a course at renewal?

Thanks,

Mine also was longer than the standard 60 days. It got here 80 days from cashing of check, 110 days from mailing.

Let me answer in reverse order.

2) To re-new your permit you simply fill out the required form. No renewal course is required.

1) There is no legal requirement that an instructors lesson plan include a shooting session. There is a legal requirement that the instructor verify that the student practices safe gun handling. There is also a legal requirement that the instructor teach to his approved lesson plan.

My lesson plan contains a shooting exercise because that is the quickest and easiest way to verify the students practice safe gun handling. I don't call it a qualification, because it is so easy (short distances, no time limit, IPSC size target, etc.).

+1 for Aaron (308 fan). I think Doc was on vacation when he put one together for some of us guys at CalGuns.net in the Sac area. IIRC notary and photo was included in the price of the course. Good guy, very helpful... especially when I asked him about why my UT app was taking so long. Which BTW, I got in 72 days. Can't go wrong with Aaron if you get a few guys together.

I took the Utah CCW program from Weapons Training School weaponstrainingschool.com , and am now simply waiting. I sent a check in the packet, and that check has not yet cleared. It has been 2 1/2 months.

Florida only took a few weeks! Of course, that was a year ago. Things could be different now.

I sent my packet on 4/6.
Utah billed my credit card on 5/18.
Arrival date was 8/17.

You may wish to contact the Utah issuing agency to verify they received your paperwork.

Default Utah is swampped with applications...

From the July Instrucror newsletter:

"Please inform your students not to call BCI as to check the status of their pending application. If your student has not received his or her permit after 90 days has passed or received any correspondence from BCI, then have your student contact BCI to locate the problem. Over the past few months BCI has received more applications then ever before. To meet the demand, in May 2009 BCI hired six additional employees to help process permits, etc."

In June the BCI receiver 11,292 applications!
