After Action Report – Intermediate Hand Gun Class
It was a humid but beautiful Sunday morning at Burro Canyon Shooting Park as the 14 of us assembled for a fantastic session with CCWI and his cast of excellent instructors. After a brief but thorough classroom instruction covering drawing, handling malfunctions and demonstration by Greg we assembled in front of our targets to prepare for our training. Starting with some dry-draw practice we moved quickly to drawing and firing live.
Working with three magazines (or two speedloaders and 6 in the cylinder) was a good exercise. Dropping an empty and loading fresh was good. Practicing disciplined shooting, covering the BGs, safe drawing under minor stress was superb. Drawing to a support arm shot and mag drop/reload was good training and showed me an issue I have with the positioning of my thumb and the mag release. Doing the doe-see-doe as we practiced turns, draw and fire was entertaining yet somewhat stressful for Greg as he tried to dummy it down so we could figure out which way to turn. At least no one fell on their face. I particularly enjoyed the last drill – Presidential Protection – where we shot 18 rounds on three targets, two rounds at a time with reloads after each six rounds. Overall, 300 rounds well spent on great training so much so that I was ready to grab another 100 rounds out of my range bag to keep shooting. I’m looking forward to August 23 and the Advanced Handgun class.
