Default Hand positioning by Secret Service and others

I've know this for quite some time, having been told by a LEO at a young age. If you have seen the Sercret Service agents on TV or in pictures with the President or the presidential candidates you may or may not have noticed this. Secret Service agents and most LEOs are trainined to keep their hands in front of them at the ready position so that they can grab an attacker or block a punch or other attack or to quickly open their jacket to draw their firearm.

The article doesn't really say much. I mean how much more can you really say about keeping your hands up at the ready. I thought the pictures were really great though. Especially towards the bottom when it shows the Secret Service agents outside of the country openly carrying full auto rifles.

Look at the guy in the crowd to the right, just about where the SS person has his hands up. Is this guy nuts?!?!

Yeah, I saw that too, but then saw they were in RI in March. Probably pretty cold there at the time. I think that is who the SS agent is putting his hand up to block. That guy chose the wrong thing to wear that day.

He's the ONLY one covered up that much, and the whole style/mannersims of his dress suggests wannabe radical. And that scarf really symbolizes things to a lot of people.

Tough job those SS guys have. Interesting series of photos.

Yeah, some sort of bull pup. The magazine is the entire top of the gun. You can kind of see it in some other pics. Low recoil, too, as all the energy is behind the grip when you fire.

Default Surprised

I am surpirsed that guy with the rag on his face got that close to anyone. I always thought (perhaps wrongly) that the Secret Service vetted crowds and took the nut-cases aside before they got close.

Several of the photos show the LEO's in clearly intentional hand postures.
That the postures appear so intentional may speak to heightened readiness, but with practice many martial practitioners appear completely natural with such gestures, and even viewed in photographic isolation, appear completely normal.
Surprising to me are the photos of such hand postures with fingers locked - very unusual for martial "ready" poses.

Or maybe we're just seeing the Secret Service (read "good guy") equivalent of "gang signs?"

Hey, just kidding!

... and they're both pretty competent guns, though the P90 has incredible short range accuracy.
