The part of the barrel that you can see, sticks out about an inch or two.

Here's a great video on the weapon - P90 Instructor - Video

Hehe, I posted this before following Maldos's link above mine. It's the same one, just a different site.

Not to geek out too much, but the P90 is the gun of choice in StarGate on the Sci-Fi channel. That's the only reason I had ever seen it before.

I was fortunate enough to see a full auto one up close and personal just recently, although I didn't get the chance to shoot it. Very cool gun. Stargate was one of my favorite shows as well, despite Richard Dean Anderson's anti-gun standing. I liked the fact they used the HK MP5s and the P90.

Funny, StarGate's where I learned about 'em too, indirectly.
Didn't know about R.D. Anderson's political views, but don't recall seeing him particularly doing a lot of shooting on the show.
Hmph.
Acting.

Do like the look and operation of the P90's though.

Richard Dean Anderson, when he was MacGuyver, made sure that his character would never use a firearm as a means to solve a problem. Thus, the character was forced to find creative ways to do things, in a non-violent, or if that wasn't possible, in as least-lethal means as possible.

Avid fan, and he did a lot of shooting. Bragging to aliens about how bitchin' the P90 was at taking down Go'auld and Jaffa. Sweet gun. Lusted over it at Shot Show in Vegas. Horizontal 50 round magazine. Oh to live in a free state!

The Wraith seem to be require a lot more 5.7mm rds before going down than the Go'aulds and Jaffas, so 50-rd magazines are definitely a must.

Secret Service agents and most LEOs are trainined to keep their hands in front of them at the ready position so that they can grab an attacker or block a punch or other attack or to quickly open their jacket to draw their firearm.

The article doesn't really say much. I mean how much more can you really say about keeping your hands up at the ready. I thought the pictures were really great though. Especially towards the bottom when it shows the Secret Service agents outside of the country openly carrying full auto rifles.

As just a civi who has had occaisional SS contact, I found these pics interesting. During contact, I had noticed a similarity to their movements, but had not really thought it through. Good link and pics. Hats off to them, they can never be wrong.

As for the scarf guy, I suspect he had it wadded up in searches and wore it later. There is no way they would have let him thorugh the gate wearing that scarf ... Looked like Arafat and I do hope they profile ....

Default P90

Uses a 50 round mag and the bullets in the mag face sideways. The mag is semi clear plastic and lays on the top of the gun. It's very cumbersome to do a mag change compared to a conventional firearm.

It's designed to shoot two handed.

Pull the trigger a little and it's semi auto, pull the trigger further and away it goes. When shouldered there is no felt recoil.

It was originaly designed to replace the pistol as a sidearm, or so I was told.

I was fortunate enough to spend a few hours shooting a couple of them. Free ammo lots of mags to load.

P90 is a great gun. It was designed fo use with little training. All the firing mech and most of the barrel is behind the grip and is suppose to help with control and recoil. It uses 5.7X28mm cartridge which is expensive and not popular... at least not in the US. But none of that matters as it is not legal in CA.

BTW... the 50 round mag is a design marvel (IMO). The cartidge makes a 90degree turn aligning with the barrel before it drops down into the chamber.
