Default Um...my new training theory

"If you're not making mistakes, you're not learning anything." Yeah, that's it. Or: "Better to screw up on the range than when it really counts."

Awesome class with CCWI today. It was Advanced Handgun. I was doing al R-I-G-H-T until the moving right and left part. Just call me Lefty now. I bumped into Dave on my left two or three times, which would make me lose track of my round count and go to slide lock. I felt a little better after the dueling trees with Swdr was coaching me through. Very fun class.

Thanks for the range report... my wife was mentioning we ought to take one of ccwI classes one of these days...

The if your not making mistakes thing is so true... amen

Now add the instructors perspective...

Never, Never, Never anger the "demonstration gods"...

I must have done some major sinnin' this last week as I was teaching officers at the range and the "demo" thing just couldn't get it together... its my eyes, or my gun, or my... fill in the blank... but I couldn't pull it together and be the awe inspiring instructor showing said learnee's the perfect shot... humbling what... and got me back on the range working my own program ... It ain't all about buying new guns... sometimes it's about shootin' the old ones!

That's a really great class. I took it a while back and will be taking it again soon. I meant to go this weekend, but thankfully I didn't sign up because my truck broke down.

I learned an incredible amount during that class. Wathcing people do things, as well as me doing things. I always keep track of my ammo count, but I found myself losing track when doing the dueling trees. It's one thing to put holes in a paper target and another when trying to hit moving targets quicker than the other person.

And for some reason when we were walking backward and firing I was holding on to my magazines instead of letting them drop. I didn't want to get them dirty I guess. I let them drop when moving forward and shooting, because it is rather difficult to hold your firearm with both hands and have two huge magazines in your hands.

That is a great class! I have taken it twice and am just about ready for a third. If you work yourself up to advanced I really think it is not a bad idea to take it at least once a year. You will find yourself getting better and it is the type of shooting most of us don't get to do. Drawing, multiple targets, double/triple taps, one hand off hand. Shoot while moving. Then the dueling trees. Fun but also very important. Where quickness and accuracy come together!

All I can say is that if bumping into some one during training makes you loose "track of round count" than its a pretty good indication some one shooting at you for real will probably make you forget alot of things. Round count is not as important as sight alignment, trigger control, Reset, and follow through which = fight stopping hit's. If you are worried about "round count" then this is what spare mag are for.

Austin:

Most folks generally start out with a NEW MEMBER post and let everyone know who they are and a little bit about themselves before they start in with both barrels, but what the heck.

Welcome to CalCCW, Austin.

Maybe once you've established yourself here by your experiences or reputation, statements like this will be taken more seriously.

Look forward to seeing your progress and learning more about you.

That's what training is all about, duh! How else do you find out these things?

I really didn't mean to piss anyone off or sound offensive. I was just stating my opinion. From a practical stand point counting rounds just seems like complicating an already complicated situation. OK now that I've established my self as the young A-Hole of the forum I hope you guys will give me another chance. Thanks guys this is an awsome forum!!

Because you didn't understand the simple movement drill which causes him to forget his left from his right. That's why they came down on you.

You have another chance, just not nine lives though.
