Default decent shooting

In my class you need to hit the center of mass (usually orange or gray depending on the target you use) and empty the gun 2 times (magazines or cylinders).

1 or 2 shots outside of the COM is not a problem but 1 shot that doesn't hit your man and you start from scratch.

Standard gunfight happens within 21 feet, 2.3 seconds, 10 rounds expended, and 2 hit their target.

You do the math

A "Variation" of the null targets...

Is to shoot for palm size groups. Start with slow fire and keep your groups of a size you can cover with the palm of your hand... Gradually speed up, always trying to stay within the original palm size group... If rounds start to spread, slow down. If no spread, speed up...

Over time, you're running through a coupls full mags at speed, and have a fist size hole in the target...

And then, if you're like me, you don't shoot often enough to maintian the skill and need to start over every time you go to the range

CCWI's classes follow some of the same thinking....your train to hit small areas to become familiar with basic target acquision, then move to double and triple taps...and spread them out a little in the critical areas to practice hitting the vital organs. Better chance of stopping someone in the real world.

I can keep 99% of my shots in the 9 ring at 25 yards. I consider that decent shooting. Good shooting would be 100% IMO

That depends ...... one hand, or two and how big that nine ring is ...

Everything in perspective.....

International Free Pistol Target at 25 yds .. 9 ring is 1.25" across.
International Rapid Fire Target 9 ring is 10" across (5 shots in 4 seconds ...starting w/gun at 45 degree angle)
both targets done with one hand only ...

Confidence in self and gun is the second most important ... first is hitting the target. Good shooting.

To me, decent shooting is putting 100% of your rounds on target at any distance short of 25 yards 100% of the time.

Well.....I'm standing at the 10 yard line when I do it

And...
how about on a moving target?
Or how about when I am moving?
I am pretty sure that one or both people are likely to be moving during a fight...
can I hit a moving target?
Can I hit a moving target while I am also mobile?
Do I have a "good shooting stance"?
Then maybe I'm making myself into a "good target"?
These are questions I ask myself.... when I ask myself... What is decent shooting?

So... does that stir the pot some?

shooting moving "targets" from a moving vehicle...
at 45+ mph...
with nothing but an M9... (i mean Beretta 92...)
that does improve skills

it gets tricky when the targets shoot back.
