Why don't we start a roll call?
I will be there next Saturday 8/25.
Anyone else?

Hmmnn, I can see the reasoning for retaining empty mag, but with rounds in the chamber. Chances are, you as the shooter do not know if you still have rounds in the mag. when you reload so you still have to retain it. You are right, slide-lock reload is the only time you drop the mag on the ground. My bad.

One of the skills I want to develop is the awareness of the number of rounds in the gun as I shoot. As CCWI taught us, having the slide locked open is an "I'm empty, you can shoot me now" indicator. The rules will give you a 5 second penalty but if in the heat of the match, I am able to keep track of things and shoot well and on top of that, I am keeping track of my ammo, I'll be more than happen to take that 5 seconds as a badge of honor. It is not the winning but the training that is important.

The mag retention rules bug me too.
Two formal shooting courses have taught me to avoid running dry. "Keep the gun running" was the consistant message with both courses and the training was based on tactical reloads as the primary or preferred method. Shooting to slide lock and doing an emergency reloads was to be avoided.

While frustrating this isn't a reason to avoid IDPA. Shoot how you want, reload when you want, train the way you think best... and have a good time.

WKC... sorry you can't make it Saturday... I will look you up in October.

I would be interested in doing this.

You guys are not helping here!

I am getting withdrawal symptoms. There is zero percent chance of me being there this Saturday.

Bruce from West End Gun Club sent an email inviting all the Prado guys to come to his club on Sunday 8/26. Same basic set up with 8 stages... Bruce usually goes for higher shot count, usually somewhere in the 125 / 150 range.

I'm thinking about checking it out. From OC it's a bit of drive to his club... 15 fwy out past Devore...

WKC... is Sunday any better for you?

Thanks Rick but Sunday is even worst. I'll be on a plane while you guys are having fun.

We'll get together one of these days.

WKC... they had a nice set up today with a couple new things for me.
One was shooting from prone position, behind cover, unsupported weak hand, and the distance some somewhere around the 25. 3 targets with 2 hits each. There were a couple other nice stanges too...

Not as many shooter today... finished by 11:30. Maybe everyone was the guns show.

Sorry you couldn't make it.

11:30! The earliest I've been out of there is 12!.

That's what I like about shooting there. You run into stages where you have to shoot from a position you are not use to. Good way to find out what other shooting skills you need to work on. We had a stage a few months back where we had to shoot prone from the concrete, about 25 to 27 yards out. That was a long day!

Hope to shoot with you soon.

I remember that stage. It was not very fun. I did not even know if I was hitting the targets. That created a bottleneck in the stages that day.
