Default Anyone know a guy in Nor Cal/ Bay Area??

Hey all,

I was interested in attending a defensive pistol class, but I don't live in SoCal. Most everyone here that knows a guy is in the OC.

So like I said before anyone know a guy in NorCal?

Check in with Reeds Indoor Range in Santa Clara. They offer some classes instructed by Louis Awerbuck at their range.

Reed's Indoor Range: Training

Also, look up Walt Marshal and Advanced Weapons and Tactics (AWT). They offer classes at the Richmond Rod & Gun Club. I think that they also have some affiliation with Bullseye Indoor Range in San Rafael.

Advanced Weapons and Tactics, Self Defense, Firearms Training

Hope this helps.

Hank

You could call Jack from the Last Gun Shop in Napa to see if he has any upcomming classes. And there is a guy who teaches out of the shooting gallery in Vacaville they have his name and # but it slips my mind right now.

Took my CCW class there and a couple other classes (Tactical Shotgun, Low Light Handgun, etc.). I highly recommend them and their prices are incredibly good.

I work at Bullseye and we offer a number of courses ranging from beginner handgun to tactical.

Go to our home page Bullseye Indoor Precision Shooting Range and Gun Store. San Rafael CA and you can select and see details on the various courses by using the "classes" drop down menu at the top of the page.

I can be reached via email at dan@soldier415.cdglobal.net

We are also a vendor over on Calguns.net so you can post questions there if you are a member.

did you ever end up taking a class? reading through some of the strings and class descriptions, it appears that you have to take a class in the county where you want to get the ccw, is that correct?

if so, does anyone have a suggestion for santa clara county?

Reed's Indoor Range: Training
I know nothing about the quality of their training, but the Issuing Authority will generally give you a list of trainers whose certification they will accept.

If you're looking to apply in Santa Clara County, you need to check with the city you live in to find out which department issues, City Police or County Sheriff.

Based on what I've heard and having grown up in the BA, I'm guessing your chances are slim of getting issued, but you have to start somewhere.

edit: I just spoke with the Santa Clara County Sheriff's Department. Their policy is that you apply with the city agency where you live. They will likely deny you. Then the county will take your application. From what I've heard, they too will deny you, but until you try, you won't know for sure.

Good luck.

thanks for the note geek!

it looks like someone else has already been down the road in my town (Gilroy), but that was 2 years ago.

Kicking off the Santa Clara forum...

i'll send an email to the Gilroy COP and see what they say just for giggles.

stay tuned

Gilroy has their own PD? Amazing. I'd have thought they'd contract that out.

Since that info on the other site is so old it may not be current but is probably still accurate, but your direction sounds like it will get you what you need to start.

Good luck.

Best training I ever paid for on my own, just for the sake of the training was from WTS - Weapons Training School

There were LEO's in the class to that paid their own way just to train with these guys. Glowing endorsements!! One of the instructors used to train L.A. County SWAT team.

If you feel like taking a drive, "The Range" in Grass Valley is a pretty nice place, the guy who runs it was my academy instructor, and he is top notch!

Do you have to be a CCW holder to attend these classes? If not, would it be more helpful to me getting this training before applying for a CCW? Thanks.

No you dont need a ccw to attend. They are however comprehensive and do meet the requirments for napa county and city for ccw training.
