Default Women's specific classes...

I will be taking CCWI's Beginning class in a couple months but am wondering if there are any classes geared for women that I should consider.

My question is, unless it is for a hand to hand self defense class for women, why limit yourself? You can learn a lot more about shooting in a mixed class.

Do you have something specific in mind?

Hand to Hand self defense for women is a great way to start women into the idea that they can defend themselves and they don't have to worry about competing with "the guys". Ultimately, though, you'd want to get into a mixed class because you're not going to have to fight only women on the street. People are different sizes, strengths, lengths, and shapes. (Duh, like we didn't know that!) Learning to adjust for those change really does help.

Oh, and no matter what, keep learning!

As far as hundgun training. This is one area where women in a lot of cases have the advantage. Something about the gentle trigger pull! I really see no reason to have a womens only class. CCWI's classes are VERY lady friendly. I have taken the Beg class twice. "yes I am a little slow" LOL Anyway both times it was 1/3 ladies in the class. They all had a blast.

Welcome to the forum Trinity. As you have already found out there are a lot of great people here more than willing to help any way they can.

The mindset that women need a man to protect them and that they are physically incapable of engaging in the same unarmed self defense (USD) / defensive tactics (DT) techniques as men is a bunch of BS.

I have had the priviledge of working with and associating with many women over the course of my life that were as deadly as they were feminine. These are women niether I or the other men I have worked with would ever consider disrespecting, regardless of whether they had a gun or not. I am also very fortunate and honored to have married one.

I highly encourage you to seek out any and all opportunities for exposure to USD / DT / Defensive Handgun / Edged Weapons / Alternative Weapons training that you can.

As others have already stated, mixed gender classes are preferable, in my opinion, because the world can sometimes be a pretty crappy place and not all men hold women in as high regard as they deserve.

Not only will you be surprised at what you are capable of but, in most cases, the men you are training with will be even more surprised.

Thanks again, Ma'am, and welcome to the forum.

That's about that need to be said about CCWI.

I have heard of women only classes. An outfit in LA offers such classes. I see it mainly geared towards women who may be intimidated by other men in the class. I get this feeling that this is not an issue with Trinity.

Not at all. I grew up with three brothers, I can certainly hold my own.

If the men can't handle the heat, they should get off the firing line. After you are done kicking some butts in CCWI's classes, come out to Prado to do some IDPA shooting and kick some butts there too. You'll have a great time in CCWI's classes.

Yep something about a handgun being a tool. A tool that does not require strength to function at its best. In fact finesse is better in most cases. The handgun in the hands of a trained "human" can be the ultimate tool to level the playing field, even against the largest, fastest, meanest and ugliest adversary!

Thunder Ranch has a women's class... I don't think it is about being only around women so that you aren't intimidated... I think it is about the same sort of stuff that makes all of the women at the table go to the bathroom at the same time... kinda of a secret synchronicity kinda weird to males Karma kinda thing....
My wife teaches women women's only group...she is a red-headed ball of firearms...sorta...but there is something really weird that happens when women get together with a woman instrutor...really weird from a man's viewpoint... even though I can teach the same subject, in the same way...she always makes the women smile more... the fun stuff comes out multiplied or something...
It is probably estrogen arcing or something
I don't think I am allowed to know the truth about it all but I can see the difference in the faces of the ladies...

Cherryl Murphy offers a Ladies Only Handgun/Self-Defense Class. I think it is a once a year deal. It seems to be very popular form what i hear.
