Found another training alternative. The
Silverado Sportsman Club runs the NRA Action Pistol Match at Prado the first and second Sunday of the month. The first Sunday is a practice session. The second Sunday is the match.
I went to the practice session yesterday and had a blast. Shot > 400 rounds in 2.5 hours. The only reason I did not shoot more was the gun was too hot to reholster in my IWB VMII. They had two plate racks and the mover set up. The plate racks holds six 8" steel plates. These are shot at 10, 15, 20, and 25 yards. The mover travels 60' across your field of fire in 10 seconds. You also shoot these at 10, 15, 20, and 25 yards.
Since this was a practice session, you can shoot the plates or the movers as often as you want. They start at 9 and normally plan to finish around noon. The cost was $15.
I consider this to be strickly marksmenship training. No tactical value in it at all. The real competitors had optics on their guns. I was the only guy there shooting 230 gr 45ACP using iron sights. I will not be very competitive but that is not why I am there.
