I believe that there is enough talent in this group to train up to whatever level we need to. Further more we could arrange to set up some kind of competition in a non-intimidating way. We all know here what it is we need to know, the thing is to get out there and practice it in a safe manner. Like someone told me once when involved in another activity, "This is a civilian outfit".
I am not about to go out in a squad, or stick and get nailed by some week end warrior, I already went through that one in my youth!
So if it is kept reasonable, count me in for something like that! we can do it to our own level of perfection. We have a group at Lake Arrowhead that does that kind of thing once a month at our range.
Up to you!

I loved FTA's CCW course that I took even though I am in SBD county so if you CCW I encourage that. It was only $175 for 2 days and worth the money.

From there on I suggest not spending your money. I took the general handgun 2 day course for $300 and was bored to death after having just come from my first USPSA match. If you know nothing about handguns then take the course but if you are even remotely good at shooting then dont waste your money.

Dont think that if you cant hit a bullseye that you arent a good shooter. It really doesnt matter and that isnt what you will learn in the course. You need time on the gun and under the appropriate circumstances and nothing better then $30 at a USPSA match.

9x45 and I seem to pair up often and go to these matches so anyone that wants to come with would be welcomed and it wont be so scary having us show you the ropes. My first time I followed 9x45 and continue do so since he has been doing this longer then I have been alive.

These training courses in my opinion are a waste of money and its more talking and helping the morons that appear unsafe then it is you getting the practice you need.

Dont think of these matches as a competition think of them as practice and after a few you will be see dramatic changes in your skills.

It was like an indoctrination camp, the instructors and staff for the most part were haughty and rude (without reason), it was a constant sales pitch, and worse the training was sub-par (I have learned more in an afternoon with Greg Block than I did in 4 days in the alternate reality of Fronsight).

For me, my indispensable classes would be the ones I have taken with Greg Block and also in the PRISim simulator.

That said I was looking to expand my horizons so I was looking at Blackwater training and Stiletto Spy School but have no desire to repeat a wasted weekend. I want something that teaches me something new, not the same old stuff that you learn in your first 3 classes of beginner shooting. So what are your favorites and maybe I can make them mine!

Most schools will want you to start with their basic class. It's just a matter of they want to make sure you are safe and know their doctrine before going forward, and they want your money.

Find a school ask questions and then plan on finishing all their courses if you want to get to advanced shooting.

If you've taken a class or classes from Greg and done a 4 day FS class you have no need to be afraid of IDPA. Let them know you haven't shot a match before and they will hook you up with somebody that knows what they are doing, and will help you along. Read the IDPA rule book I think you can get it on line. Learn the range commands they use and you'll be GTG.
