While there are masks available at home improvement centers, they don't do much. I suggest that you purchase the N95 respirator masks - they filter out 95% of all molecules as small as a virus or TB. The cost isn't so bad and your health is worth the cost.

Of course, the obvious answer is to shoot outdoors whenever possible. Besides, a mix of outdoor and indoor shooting is good..

Since you live in the LA area go to the Firing Line in Burbank and don't worry about it.

Stay away from a ranges with metal backstops.

There's quite a bit of local outdoor shooting in the LA area you could try your had with some competition. Piru has a couple of IDPA matches and an IPSC match along with 3 gun and a beginner designed steel match. The Steel Challange is there too. Lopez Canyon has IPSC match every month. Norco has pistol matches all the time. I don't go there too far when there is shooting close to me. West End Gun Club has a few matches a month. Palm Springs Gun Club has matches if you're looking to take the wife someplace for the weekend and get in some shooting too.

Good luck and PM me if you have any questions I'd be glad to help.

Default Try this

I have used this ammo before. You pay a little more, but it reduces the risks that are your concern.

Like others have said if you're shooting indoors unless the entire range is "range clean" ammo it won't matter other than you'll have less money.

IF YOUR CONCERNED ABOUT BREATHING LEAD, BUY A 10 MICRON OR SMALLER PAPER PARTICLE MASK FOR A COUPLE DOLLARS,3-M MAKES SEVERAL TO CHOOSE FROM, THEY ARE LIGHT AND THROWAWAY, ALSO OF CONCERN SHOULD BE YOUR CLOTHING AS WELL, TAKING AWAY LEAD CONTAMINATION AND SPREADING IT AROUND YOUR CAR,COUCH,BED SPREAD, WASING MACHINE, ECT. IS NOT GOOD, ESPICALLY IF YOU HAVE A SMALL CHILD AROUND, PURCHASING A PAIR OF THROW AWAY STLYE COVERALLS, "PAPER IS FINE" FOUND AT PAINT STORES,WALL MART, ECT.ALONG WITH A PAPER PAINTERS STYLE HAT, WILL ALLOW YOU TO DISPOSE OF THE LEAD AQUIRED WHILE AT THE RANGE, JUST TAKE E'M OFF AND DROP IN A TRASH CAN, NORMALLY THE SMALL AMOUNT OF LEAD YOU ARE EXPOSED TO DURING AFTER YOUR FINISHED HAVING FUN.. A HOUR SESSION AT INDOOR RANGE, WOULD NOT BE HARMFUL TO MOST PEOPLE, BUT SINCE LEAD CONTAMINATION IS A VERY SERIOUS HEALTH RISK,ESPICALLY FOR LONGER EXPOSURE TIMES,JUST ADD 5 MORE DOLLARS TO THE COST OF YOUR SHOOT SESSION AT THE RANGE AND STAY PROTECTED BY COVERING UP AND NOT RISKING CONTAMINATION !! YOU'LL LOOK KINDA GOOFY,? BUT BE FAIRLY WELL PROTECTED,, ALWAYS WASH YOUR HANDS AFTER SHOOTING OR HANDLING AMMO OR UNCLEANED GUN ...P.F.

There's them that can learn from others,
There's them that can learn from books,
And there's them that has to whiz on the electric fence for themselves."
I prefer to be one of the first two kind and to learn from others' mistakes.
