Default What's In Your Bag?

I'm sure we all go to the range at least once a week to keep our skills at the ready.

I'm sure we all have a "range bag" for our firearms and ammo.

But, What else do you carry in your bag?

I use the El Prado Shooting Range, which is as most of you know, "out doors" and I like it that way. Since the weather lately has been somewhat hot and humid, even at 8am, I was wondering what everyone else carries.

I carry:

Eye Protection - RZ87+HD with Yellow Lens', My wife's have "pink" lenses and to be honest, they creat a better sharpness. They are also very good for night driving.

Ear Protection - Caldwell's E85 Sound Right Stereo Hearing Protection, "Stops Sound over 85 dB", Magnifies Sound under 85 dB.

These are inexpense and work great. I can hear my down stairs Television when I'm upstairs. Also good for hearing what those "evil teens" are secretly talking to their friends about on the phone in the other room.

Staying Healthy - I will admit I'm somewhat of a health freek, but that's a good thing.

I carry a Quart Size ziplock bag full of ice.

1 half gallon of bottled water.

1 or 2 Apples

1 or 2 Banana's

Several Servings of Jack Links - Teriyaki Beef Jerky, which contains
Sodium - 25%, for hydration
Carbs - 5 grams, energy
Protien - 14 grams, extra energy

So, What do you carry in your range bag?

When I go to the range or an IDPA or IPSC match my bag contains:
  • Main Gun - P2000
  • Backup Gun - USPf9 (like an H&K is ever gonna break)
  • Lots of Ammo
  • Lots of mags
  • UPLULA for loading the mags
  • Ear Muffs
  • Spare batteries for Ear Muffs
  • Staple gun, staples & masking tape for patching targets
  • Allen wrenches & a Gerber tool (see Backup Gun)
  • IDPA & USPSA rule books
  • Snap caps
  • Holster(s), mag pouches
  • Golf towel clipped to bag

Not in my bag but just as important:

My prescription Polaroids for eye protection.

Even though we have 300+ days of sunshine, I have a golf rain suit in my vehicle.

I clean after each session but I also bring along another box full of cleaning stuff, just in case.

I also bring along a cooler w/some cold, non-caffeinated beverages like Propel.

And last but not least, toilet paper, just in case the porta-potties don't have any.

I shoot mostly outdoors during my lunch break or during weekends for steel challenge or defensive pistol contests. So, I pack appropriately for the conditions:

Range Bag
My G22, sometimes my S&W Model 19 and my Astra 300 each with locking cases
15 magazines for my G22, loaded
four speedloaders for my S&W, loaded
Three mags for my Astra 300, loaded
(I hate to take time at the range to load my mags)
Two towels, one for the guns and one for me
Uplula
two mag pouch
six mag pouch
dual speedloader holster
holster for each gun
ESS I.C.E eye protection with prescription insert
Electronic ear muffs
Ear plugs (from Ear Plugs USA - thanks Linda)
stapler, staples
200 additional rounds of .40S&W, 60 rounds of 38/357, 50 rounds of 380
Water bottle

in my car -
cooler with Gatorade, water, freezer bags, cooler bandana
broom (to ease the brass collection/range clean up)
tube holding spare targets
first aid kit
Cleaning kit

If only it were just a single range "bag", no, I have MANY range bags:

Rifle range main bag:
Browning mesh shooting vest w. recoil pads
Rectar "fat boy" elbow pads
hearing protection
chamber flags
insect repellent
sunblock
gloves
shooting hats
spare sling
Anschutz sight inserts
smaller bag 'o tools, screwdriver, M1 combo tool, oil, grease, wrench, pliers.
sight adjusting tool(s)
scorekeeping book
raingear
laser boresighting tool
crying towel/grease rags

Optics bag:
Freeland scope stand, with mounts and weight
high power spotting scope with eyepieces

Target bag:
Artist's "portfolio bag, containing various high power targets and target centers

Line break bag:
staple gun
spare staples
target pasters (kraft brown, buff, black)
sharpie marker for scoring targets

Brass bag/ammo bag
lineman's canvas bucket starts out with bricks of ammo, ends up filled with empty brass

I always transport my guns to the range in seperate hard cases, not in the range bags

Dang, going to the range sure is a lot of work, but its damn fun!

A zip-loc bag of reloads, ear protection, an extra magazine (or two) and a recycled lint free surgical drape to lay my pistol on.

Simple me.
