The Defensive Pistol Shoot was a great time. About 35 folks showed up to participate coming from the Inland Empire as well as the local area. There were four stages set up with three challenging stages and one that contained two run using a .22 rifle and a .22 pistol (rifle and pistol + ammo provided). Participants used a variety of pistols 9mm being the most prominent.
This was my first time on a defensive handgun course and I had a great time. I guarantee that every bullet exited my gun and most hit the target as prescribed. The only pressure / competition is how you do against your own expectations. One stage included IDPA targets, steel plates, poppers, and the Texas Star. All involved baracades of some type. The second stage involved drawing cards, shooting through a barrel while kneeling at four targets and finally four paper following movement. The last competitive stage involved movement and shooting prone under a baracade, four steel plates and two small steel squares. The 22 shooting was a bit much because of the time involved but still fun (this was the slow down point for everyone). Ten targets (clay birds) with pistol and ten with rifle. Overall, we had a great time and completed the morning at 11:30. The next Defensive Pistol is the last Sunday in October (26th). The next pistol event is the Steel Challenge on Saturday October 11. All events begin at 8:00 AM. There is some discussion about adding an evening event but that is on hold for now. Come on up and join us in October - the drive isn't that bad (1.5 hours from Costa Mesa).

Rick.
I am glad that you guys have that. We have something like that on a monthly basis at Lake Arrowhead Fish and Game www.lakearrowheadfishandgame.com Those events start now at 9:00 AM, this gives a chance for commuters to get in. After that we have a barbecue and kick back some. Unfortunately that event is members only. I have noticed more people going to the 9mm due to increased ammo cost. We have some events like CMP shoots, youth shoots, which are open to the community. We strive to teach safety and proper training. |
