Default New TLE/RL Range Report

I went down to Evans after work today to break in my new toy:
A new Stainless TLE/RL II

The only problem that I encountered during its inaugural run was a failure to lock back on an empty mag. It happened a handful of times within the first 100 rounds. I have a feeling that the Kimber supplied mag might be to blame. I never intended to use it in the first place but when I got to the range I realized that the mags I had for my Ultra CDP probably wouldn't work with the full sized 1911s... who knew? Ha-ha. Didn't even cross my mind until I started loading one up and noticed it stuck out of the bottom a bit too far. Nothing that a quick call to a certain guy cant fix though!

Overall I am very impressed. I only had time to put about 200 rounds downrange but so far-so good. This thing is a tack driver for sure. Right out of the box i was creating one jagged hole in my targets. I will admit that I am not a master marksman but this gun made me look good.

It is a bit late so I probably left some stuff out, but I was too giddy to go to bed without sharing about my new range workhorse.

Now, if I may, does anyone have any suggestions for a good light or laser/light combo to add to this beauty?

This is my nightstand gun (minus the stainless) with a SureFire X200B mounted on it. Couldn't be happier. Previously I had a SureFire X200A, but I highly recommend the B over the A for home defense. The A is a tight spot, the B lights up the room. There's a new single model X300 that replaces both now, but you can find used but not abused X200's for around $100 or so. I recommend the SureFire X series highly over the other brands - these are solid the others (for the most part) are not.

And do yourself a favor - just throw away the supplied Kimber mag. Yes, I said just throw it away - they are completely useless anyways and you'll feel better afterwards - then go buy some Wilson 47D mags.

I second that! However, I used the Kimber Tac Mags (not OEM supplied) and have had no problems with mine. I do agree though, the single supplied OEM mag that comes with the Kimber is not the best.

I agree that the Kimber OEM magazines leave a lot to be desired. Another solution you may want to try is purchasing a Wilson Combat Spring and Follower Kit and replace the spring and follower in the OEM Magazine.

It is a $10.00 solution that will allow you to use your OEM magazine with confidence.

I also endorse getting some Wilson Combat 47D magazines as well. You will not be disappointed.

Thanks,

My cousin used to have a TLE II, great gun! I could put an entire magazine in the eye slot of a siloutte target at 15 yards (as far back as my range goes). That may not all that great for a lot of you, but considering how I was shooting everything else that day I was pretty darn happy. Great gun, in fact I'm kind of looking at 1911's and that is definitely on the list.

Thanks, I will look into those lights. I have heard great things about the SureFire brand but haven't really played around with any yet.

Oh and don't worryeveryone, I have a few Wilsons on order right now. For whatever reason my mind didn't make the size distinction between the compact and full size guns and their magazine requirements until I had already got down to the range. That being said, I am actually surprised at how well the supplied Kimber mag performed. The one that came with my CDP caused constant FTFs.
