That's unfortunate, but awesome at the same time. Congratulations! My wife just informed me that she may not be in town for a similar reason. My oldest is due August 30th with my 4th granddaughter, the day after MY B-Day. My Daughter has already been instructed to hold off until AFTER the 29th. If she delivers on schedule I may be expected to be in Woodland, NOT! I don't think they'll need a grumpy Grandfather there. Prospective Dads will be excused.

Default A little more info, a little more fun

Since nobody's mentioned bringing an RV, I won't provide any further info. If you're going to be doing that, PM me for specific information.

You already know that tents on the lawn, inside the range, are a "go." Do let me know what time you expect to arrive, if you're coming in Friday, so we can make sure somebody can let you in. Range access is controlled. Everybody needs to sign in, and to sign a waiver.

The water situation isn't as bad as it sounds. The water at the hand washing station is clean. It's the rest of the water -- the water used on the lawns, etc. that is irrigation water. But there will be plenty of potable water on hand. At the very least, we will be ferrying water, in quantity, from the dairy. We may also have bottled water for drinking, and possibly also an ice supply. Do bring water containers for your own use, but there's no need to pack a couple days' H2O supply.

For kids who would like to fish, there's a pond that is stocked nearby. Kids have to be accompanied by an adult.

Schedule, such as it is: Range goes hot sometime between sunrise and, oh, 8:00. Spend the day shooting: 1.) firearms; 2.) the bull, but not the buffali. Short "orientation" meeting about 10:00, when we'll discuss what sorts of activities we all want to do. See below.

You're on your own for breakfast & lunch. For dinner, we're planning on doing a barbecue. Bring $5 apiece. With that, we'll get hamburgers, etc. and cook 'em. Note that River Oaks Range is a good 10 miles from the nearest restaurant.

Evening: low-light shooting, campfire (s'mores, I reckon), keep shooting the bull.

IF YOU ARE INTERESTED, there will be some great educational opportunities available. Several SME's will be there. Their CV's are much too long to present here, but here's a quick run-through. These are all SFSA members. I've decided not to post their names here for the time being.

* (Retired Police Officer, college prof & dept. chair, LE technology product tester, author): a short discussion on methods of carry.

* (Chief Deputy District Attorney of a Northern California county): Legal aspects of concealed carry.

* (A.B.C. Senior Agent, and F.A. Instructor): His field of expertise is firing positions -- ground, sitting in a chair, etc. etc.

Dan Gray, Trident Firearms Academy, will be setting up "force-on-force" challenges, using airsoft weapons.

Other things will be offered as we have interest. These will be discussed at the 10:00 meeting. This will be things like IDPA - type exercises, including moving targets, barricades, etc. They have all kinds of material for such things, because they sponsor monthly IDPA competitions.

Allow me to clarify again that there is no limit on calibers/long guns. The only thing we don't have available is a long range. I wish we did, but, hey, for 25 years I sighted in my M-16 on a 25 meter range. We just used small targets.

The trap house will be available. .22 ammo & rifles, and range supervisors, will be available for kids who want to shoot. All targets, backing, etc. etc. provided by SFSA for free.

What more could you possibly ask for (I know, besides a long rifle range)?

Sadly, I do not think that I'll be able to go. We generally have activities planned for most Saturdays for the next couple months. On top of that, I've got to be at work at 3 pm. The timing just isn't working out well for me. Otherwise, it'd be hard work keeping me here...

Default 23 Days To The Central Committee Shindig!

We will be doing this again as there seemed to be a lot of interest. Hopefully we can get "The Squirell" to one of those events. Maybe more along the lines of an UH "long range rifle" range.

I don't know about the rest of you, but I'm getting excited!

It's looking like I may be spending the night, playing "camp host". I've not camped in a few years. Hope I'm prepared.

I would be more than glad to meet up at an event, but it's going to have to be planned very carefully on my end to ensure that I can get there. I just can't make this one...

Looking forward to this .
I only live an hour & a half away so I am still tossing around whether or not to do the camping thing, sounds like fun though.
Any idea how many will camp out overnight and will everyone but me have a trailer or RV?

We plan on arriving at the range Friday afternoon, camping both fri and sat nights. Tent only, we can bring water--we camp all the time, so the no water thing is not a problem.

This is shaping up to be a real fun time, looking forward to it.

I'm still not sure I can make it, but I ate at a place called Tequila Grill in Winton the other day. Great food! If you're hungry and have a hankering for some Mexican food after shooting I highly recommend it. Hope to see you all there.

"Please post a reply to this thread indicating how many will be attending with you."

I'll be there. I'm really looking forward to it. But then again, I live up here. <grin> I had a hell of a time finding this thread. This forum program is kicking my butt and it is used on several forums I go to.

I think this will be a very good weekend and worth the trip. Looking forward to everyone that is coming.

I am going to give it a shot, but I am scheduled to work that weekend. I will see what I can switch around.

Default 15 Days Til The Central Committee BASH!

Sounds GREAT everybody! We've got folks coming from all over the state.

I hope nothing comes up last minute to force anyone to have to change plans. Especially mine!

I wish I could make it. I'm training that weekend. One thing I know is name badges are needed. The social director and forum secretary agreed on this.

As a result name badge will be supplied for the event.

NOTE PM Female Instructor your first name so she can make the name badge for you.

The two of you will be missed but it's not a suprise that you're doing training that weekend. Thank you for that.

Thanks for pulling the badges together.

Default Update & more fun!

Things are coming together nicely.

Be sure to bring $5.00 to cover Saturday night's barbecue. That, too, is becoming better all the time.

It now appears that Lindsey, the LE product reviewer, has some new ammo he needs to test, so he'll be shooting some ballistic gelatin out there. Here's your chance to see first hand what a round does when it performs its intended task.

EM2, so far everybody's doin' it in a tent. BTW RV'ers have to make their home where the buffali roam. Maybe that's why...
