Another solution might be to do a nor-central Cal shoot and then later in the year do a Bako shoot... say the first weekend in Feb. when there is a cannon match going... or something like that...

If a weekday shoot has some interest, I can probably get my range laid on. I am probably the farthest north of all the members, though. Traveling to my range may be difficult for Central and Southern California members. Thanks, |

Poogsdad, is that range what we used to call the "Simpson range?" I shot there once or twice, I think with the 579th, back when we were carrying flintlocks, and Simpson's yarders were oxen.
I would love to have an excuse to visit back up there. But, true, it would be about a 10-hour drive for me, just a few miles from the geographical center of the state. One of my college friends lived in Brea. I'll have to ask her how long the "commute" took. Come to think of it, some scenes from I think the last Star Wars movie were shot up there somewhere. Did you get in on that? That would explain your avatar! |

Our weapons have evolved a little beyond flintlocks and we use horseless carriages now to maintain the place. It would not surprise me if some scenes from Star Wars were shot up here, assuming the pot growers and indigents didn't object. As for my avatar, when I grow up I want to be just like Yoda. Six or seven hundred years should be about right. In all seriousness, I would love to share my range with anyone who can make it up. Thanks, |

Just to let you know, this idea/process has not gone away. The decision as to where the event will be held is of necessity on temporary hold. I suspect that Mad Geek and/or I will be posting again, in detail, shortly.
In the meantime, check your stocks of WWB. Try not to clean out your nearest Wally World all on one visit. |

This range day was initially brought up as a way for the Central Committee members to get some "face-time", and by having it in the middle of the Central Valley, nobody in the central part of the state would have to drive a great distance to attend.
We've obviously generated a lot of interest and now need to move forward, but with one last bit of fine tuning: I'm suggesting we have a Central Committee Range Day at the River Oaks Range in Winton. It will be a pistol only event due to the depth of the range. I'll be taking a drive up to visit the facility and discuss what we can expect on this day. I'm hoping to work with Quietpi to make this range day a sauces, and something we can build on in the future. Furthermore, there has been sufficient interest in having a Pistol/Long Gun Range Day that I believe we need to start looking for a place to do that as well. 5 Dogs sounds like a full service facility, but I've heard of some other "long distance" ranges in the state as well. I only have 100 and 200 yards available to me locally and can shoot any of my long rifles there, but would really like to stretch out with my M1A and see if I can hit targets at 500 yards. Several members have other long rifles (more than one Remington .308 LTR and who knows what else). I'll likely have an opportunity to see 5 Dogs on my way back from Bakersfield Thursday afternoon, so I can give a personal account on MY interest, but I think we owe it to ourselves to pull a rifle day together. So, here is the final poll to get a count of "Who Is Going To Attend The Central Committee Range Day?" http://www.calccw.com/Forums/range-r...range-day.html
