Talking Finally Got Range Time For My Renewal...

Well in order to requalify for renewal of my CCW, we got some range time this morning. I go with a Rangemaster who does the training, that is also a Korean War U.S. Marine Corps Veteran. In Humboldt County, there are several persons whom you can use for one's marksmanship qualification requirements. There has been a wait for the outdoor range time, due to the local Law Enforcement Officers having to qualify with their new M-16A2's and AR-15's they were just issued. One local Chief of Police in Blue Lake, with a staff of four - had 27 fully automatic weapons in their stores. It is a big story up here on the north coast. The outdoor range that I go to is the Simpson/ Green Diamond Timber Company range on HWY 299 just past Blue Lake, California a few miles inland.

This morning it was snowing/ hailing here at 1800 feet above the ocean at 7:30 a.m.. So I dressed appropiately, then loaded the range bags and ammo cans into the truck. Off we go down the hill to the outdoor range, for some serious shooting.

There were seven of us that were requalifying for renewal of our California CCW licenses. There were revolvers and semi-auto pistols in caliber from .22LR up to .44 magnum, .45 Long Colt, and .45 a.c.p.. So lots of diversity of what us law abiding folks are carrying in public.

I have a Czech CZ-52 in 7.62X25mm Tokarev, Walther P-38 in 9mm parabellum, and a Colt Model 1911 Gov't in 45 a.c.p. as my three listed weapons. When I finished firing my required 25 rounds per weapon, and secured my gear/ extra magazines. I heard the comment made, "He must have been really mad at that target!" I replied, "Nope... Just lots of practice and I repeatedly qualified as a RIFLE and PISTOL SHARPSHOOTER (I went and read my medals) in the US Marine Corps, while on active duty."

I always missed EXPERT by 3 to 5 points every time, of course I was young and impatient back then also..... Today, I got a passing mark = no numerical score, but I think I impressed the instructor and the others at the range. I had several asking what I was shootin' today looking at the CZ-52 and the ammunition for it.

A Colt 1911 .45 a.c.p.wanna-be on the left, with a CZ-52 in 7.62X25mm Tokarev on the right..

So Tuesday the 18th, I go to the Humboldt County Sheriff's Office, pay my $72.00 dollars renewal fees at the front counter. Get my offical receipt, and then wait for my new renewed CCW license to be mailed back to my P.O. Box. Our Rangemaster showed us his new CCW license, and that the County Sheriff's Office is attaching a small photograph with the newest issued licenses. My current license expires 4-4-08, so I should find out real soon!!!!!!

Good Job!

Sounds like a fun day at the range, as well as being productive, aside from the weather.

We had a little snow @ 2700' just South of Yosemite today, after a substantial amount of hail.

NikNak - Sorry, but when I find something I like - I hang onto it for quite some time!!!! No "Let's Make a Deal" or "The Price Is Right" either!!!!! I enjoy my Military Surplus weapons that are very accurate... At the range, I guess I impressed the others there that were requalifying from their comments. It might have been my aggressive Marine Corps shooting style also.

That and I am up at the other end of the state. I see that there is a gun show coming up in your area this next weekend.... Maybe you can find a Colt 1911 in .45 a.c.p. at a reasonable price then. Don't forget to get several extra magazines!!!!!!

Default Ooh-Rah Devil Dog!

Jarhead the one thing that struck me as great was the fact that you all did not allow Mother Nature to stop you from completing your intended goal, and the very fact that because you live in that environment; you must train in it also.

Thank you for the intel Devil Dog. Good to see you are still squared away and good to go!

Well Sage417 - it is not always nice and sunny everyday everywhere in California. So like the US Marine Corps Hymn, "We have fought in every clime and place, where we could take our gun!" I am from Michigan originally, so some snow or rain is not gonna slow me down.
