That I did. I guess it helps to know "a guy".
![]() So range report #2: Houston we have a problem So I go in and talk to Pat again. Nice guy. I make sure to sign in on the FOG log and get assigned a lane. I loaded up my mags and was ready to throw some brass. Half way through the first mag the slide locks back. I was keeping an eye on my thumb placement so I am fairly certain that I didn't accidentally hit the safety but I hit the slide lock and kept going. The next few mags went off well. Then at about round 30, right after pulling the trigger this happened... Sorry for the bad pics, I can't seem to find a battery for my digi-cam. ![]() ![]() ![]() Yup, the left side of the thumb safety decided it didn't want to be a part of the gun anymore. At least the right side stayed in! So I am not quite sure what happened exactly. I do not know enough about this gun or even 1911s in general to be comfortable doing a complete strip down to check it out. I don't assume this isn't a normal occurrence right with an easy fix right? ha-ha. I wonder if Kimber will be open on Monday... |

Most of use can put it back in for you. It fell out.

I think FlyingM must change his name to FlyingSafety

But, is it supposed to "fall out"?

Therein lies the rub. I took the slide off when I got home and was able to put it back in. There is still a little problem though. When working the safety with the left side lever everything works well. When working the safety with the right side lever the left side moves out just enough for it to foul up. It seems that as long as there is pressure on the left side it is ok. Is there something on the inside of the frame that holds it in? I can't seem to find a good exploded diagram online that would show it.
Ha-ha. Hmm I might just have to do that. I am guessing no but maybe I am mistaken? ![]() |

Only diagram I know of is in the manual.

Looking at it though, I don't see anything that specifically captures the safety and holds the safety in place. Maybe mine just fits loose? |

Is your Kimber an older model or one of the newer ones? I ask because . . . does the ambi on the right side go beneath the grips? The older ones needed to be attached together (left and right levers) completely. The newer ones hang off the hammer hook.

It is a newer version. The right side just slips over a pin that sticks out of the frame. The more I look at it the more I think that it is just a loose fit. That is a little unnerving to me since it is one of the main safeties on the gun.

As long as the manual safety lever on the left side of the pistol (when the pistol is pointed away from you and towards the target) functions as it was intended by John Moses then the operation of the pistol is okay. The right side manual safety lever is more an additional luxury. ![]() |
