Default Free Shooting in Tehachapi?

Can anyone offer a (free) informal (legal) place for me to do some target shooting in the Tehachapi area? I am a member of the Tehachapi Sportsman Club range, but each time I go it's either full or closed.

If you know someone that lives in Bear Valley Springs I understand they have a range which is open to members of their HOA. I haven't had an opportunity to check it out myself yet.

There should also be some BLM areas which are safe to shoot at...talk to some locals and see what they have to say.

BT, come on down from your hilltop and into the lovely desert of Rosamond. I have a great place to shoot that is west of the 14 at Dawn Rd. A lot of Rosamond people (and others) know about it. It's well known for target shooting. I believe most people call it Rattlesnake Road. Lots of open area with nice hillsides to shoot into. PM me or...you know how to get a hold of me.

Thanks for the offer... I gotta stay fairly local, so I can have time to do my weekend 'honey-dos'. During the week I'm workin' to afford ammo...

BT,

I have a friend who owns about 50 acres off of Comanche and Edison Hwy. I go there with my buddies and shoot fairly often. In fact, we are heading out there this Saturday, Oct. 1st. You are welcome to join us. Just shoot me a PM and I will get you my contact info. We can even car pool if you like.

Thanks for the offers guys... I will certainly keep you both in mind, should the better-half ever springs me for a full day. I will be throwing some lead with a fellow forum member (at the listed GPS coordinates) at 10am tomorrow (10/1) - with a possible lunch afterward. Feel free to join us if the opportunity presents itself. I got some real good pointers from El Gato's better-half a couple of weeks ago (at 5-Dogs), so tomorrow will offer practice for this...

Just find some BLM land and you can target shoot all you want on public land... you have a lot of BLM land around Tehachapi... the BLM maps are $4 each and they clearly show these areas of public land, you want the "Lake Isabella" and the "Tehachapi" quadrangle maps, not sure if you can buy them online but I get them at the BLM field office in Bako, located near the airport. I picked up some of these maps and found a little patch of public land about 15' from my house that I shoot at...
