Default First shoot with G30

I am in San Diego visiting my Marine son. We went to a public indoor range in OceanSide. I brought my G23C a .40, G30, a .45, S&W 411 a .40, and we rented an XD 4 inch. My son wanted to try all of them before he buys an XD.

I started by breaking in my brand new G30. I really surprised myself at how well I shot, especially since I haven't shot in a while. At 15 yards, I kept the very first 10 rounds in 4 inch grouping. I have never shot anything this well, and certainly didnt expect it from a 4 inch barreled 45. I figured it wqas just a fluke. The G30 has stock sights.

I shot my 23C and performed as I expected. I was all over the place. A grouping of 16 inchs. The G23C has Trijicon night sights. Then I turned the lasermax on and kept another 10 rounds in a 3 inch grouping.

Than comes the S&W 411. For a fishing weight I forgot how fun that was to shoot. I shot this very well also.

Tried the 23C again and sucked. I can't figure it out.

Shot the G30 and again did very well, better than I normally shoot.

The only thing I can think of is the G23 is just to light. It seems the heavier handguns are easier for me to steady.

I never did shoot the XD because I was afraid I would want one and I know what would happen if I told the family CEO that I needed another handgun right now.

My son, who qaulifies expert at 500 yards with iron sights in the Marines, really liked the XD. He said it felt the best in his hand over the other pistols and is was more acurate with it also. He was able to remain consistant with 4-5 inch groupings at 15 yards as I worsened as the day progressed.

All in all it was a great way to spend the day with my Sgt. in the Corp.

Sounds like a lot of fun. I recently got a G30 and find it to be very accurate to fire. I have a G22 and the recoil of the G30 is not as snappy as the 22.

Congrats on spending a great day!

The 1st Glock I ever fired was a rented G30. That experience sold me.
My CCW lists G27, G36 & G30.

Yes the G-30 is impressive. I aim to list the G-30, G-27, and PM-9. I will have achieved a balanced situation then, PM-9 will be here in a couple of weeks.
I am taking off my CDP and the G-23 from the paper.

I'm listing my G22, G30 and Astra 300. Took off my S&W model 19 off - it was too big. this gives me a full size, compact and small semi-auto on my permit.

Default Semper FI

Sounds like a great father/son day!! Tell your son we are all proud of his service to the country. Gonna spend some father/son time with my 20 year old this weekend at Front Sight. Wanted him to get some training and experience with handling weapons since he grew up in the suburbs. Of course, couldn't let him take MY weapons for some quality range time WITHOUT DAD!! Looking forward to it. Only wish I had found this sight first. There are many good training centers around here that I have found out about on this forum. At least now I know I don't have to travel so far for training. One thing I am not looking forward to, I have this eery feeling that 8 hours of the 16 hours of training are gonna be sales pitch for other courses.

Again...thanks to jr for his service.

Semper FI,

Keith

I'm guessing you went to IronSights there in Oceanside. I used to live in Oceanside and have been there a few times.

But yeah, I love my G30 and am amazed at how accurately I can shoot it. It is a great gun!

Yup! you guessed right. I am a little jealous of my son, Oceanside is a fun place and the morning weather is awesome, not to mention Harleys everywhere.

Iron Sights was a decent range, they even had plenty of 45 ammo.
