Default Hello from the heart of the gold country

Hello,

My name is NSP and I stumbled across this forum while using Google to get some info on CCW permits here in California. I've signed up for a CCW class at our local gun range and will be taking it on the 7th of July.

My quest here is to see what I have ahead of my and how can I prepare myself?

Welcome from the Staff and Founding Members. If you put your county as your location we can better assist you. The Gold Country is a large area.

I understand, you could have used Nadu drive. I would have figure it out. Sheriff Keith Royal is very pro CCW. Likes guns too. As long as you have a good GC, you should be fine. GVPD doesn't issue that many.

One of our Founding Members is from there, if he doesn't PM you, PM me I will get hold of him.

Yeah, luckily I'm not in the GV township, I'm in the PV area. As I understand my reasons for wanting a CCW are valid as I have been talking to a shooting instructor who is an ex deputy that works in the correctional facility.

I'm mostly curious about what to expect from the class, or if there are and ducks I need to get in rows. Like the GC statement? What's that?

Doesn't surprise me that the founder is from around here. The longer I live in this are the more people I meet. It's the smallest world on the planet.

It is recommended that rather than rely on your verbal statement to the interviewing officer, you communicate your Good Cause in written "statement". Sometimes a valid good cause can get lost in translation from interviewer to decision maker.

If you write up your statement there are experienced members here whe can review it for you.

Welcome from another central californian. As I see you are already in good hands here. Good questions will offer valuable information and as CCWI said you are in a very reasonable county for issue.

Good luck in your endevor.

I got a call from the sheriff on Friday to verify my application and GC statement. Turn over time from time of submittal to the initial call was 5 months. Now I have to wait for the next phone call for my "face to face" interview. Even though the phone call was somewhat of an interview and he did use the word "interview" pertaining to our phone conversation himself. So I don't know what to expect from the "face to face" really.

I'm writing this post because some people from my area are curious on time frames for CCW permit. I'll keep updating this thread as I go through the different stages.

A long wait, but at least now they have acknowledged that your application is progressing. Hopefully the balance of your process is a little more timely.

I just turned in my Mono County (Town of Mammoth Lakes) renewal in today as per instructions. She said to bring it in 2 weeks before expiration and she would have the Chief sign it and then give me a call to pick it up.

I will post my renewal experience soon. I hope all goes well.

Had my face to face interview today. The undersheriff I talked to left me with the feeling that they really want you to know the responsibility and the reprocussions of carrying and/or using a CCW firearm. He wanted to know my background on shooting, safety around the home with my family and firearms, and about my good cause.

Really nice guy and easy to feel comfortable with

Also we talked a bit about being a wittness vs participant in a situation. Where I used my spare tire analogy.

After the interview I had my live scan and now I await the results.

*edit* I forgot to add: Nevada county Sheriff's office now requires you to check in annually on top of the 2 year renewal.

Welcome to the forums NSP. Yeah...they have required the yearly check-in since permits went to 2 years instead of 1. I had my permit in Nevada Co. for a long time.

I'm further north east now in a different county.

Are you in the flatlands or up in the hills?

Hey Greg...It's Maidu Road.

What is the purpose of the annual check in?? With my local PD issued permit I must re-qualify annually with the local PD.

I was told it was to collect the fee they charge by an insider....but they also run you for warrants and take your photograph. Multiple reasons.
