Default New Member in Sacramento

Hello all.

I'm from North Carolina but moved to CA a few years ago. I was in Placer County but moved to Sacramento a few months ago. I pick up my first gun on Friday.

My dad has been a cop in NC for over 30 years and my brother is in Texas so both carry all the time. I wish I could do the same here but from what I hear that is tough.

Anyway, I would love advice on local shooting ranges or Sacramento CCW achievements. I'm located in River Park in East Sacramento if anyone is around the area.

Brad

First off: Welcome to this site!

I have both good news and bad news...

The good news is that Sacramento County has some pretty good ranges, but they are a bit spread out. My favorites (basically in order are)
  1. Sacramento Valley Shooting Center - almost to the border of Amador County
  2. Cordova Shooting Center - in Rancho Cordova
  3. The Gun Room (in Elk Grove)
  4. James Mangan Range (just north of Executive Airport)
Ok... Now for the BAD news. CCW Licenses have become EXTREMELY difficult to obtain in Sacramento during the past year. Sacramento is kind of like LA vs. OC right now... other nearby counties are much easier to get a CCW in, and Sacramento is essentially impossible right now.

Do you guys ever get together to go shoot around here? It has been a few years since I last shot back in NC and would love some guidance. The gun I just bought is a Glock 23. I have my eye on a H&K P2000 and a Sig P229 plus more Glocks.

Brad,

Yeah, we are working on another range day. The last one fell through. I know we WERE going to go to SacValley this past weekend, nearest i can tell, it will be 2 more weeks fore a few of us. You get a wild hair and wanna go, just post something up. Trying to get ALL of us together can be rough, but usually someone should be able to meet up.

Welcome aboard Brad! Nice to have another Sacramento person on the board. As far as range days, I am up for a weekend in June.

What days/times are best for the least amount of people at the range? Thanks to all for the welcome here. Great site!

Brad
I own a Glock 23 as well. I really like it, though I prefer other types of pistols. I have found that I'm pretty accurate with it. Over the years, I have tried a few pistols. I like the Sig P229, but couldn't afford it. I also have tried a couple of Kimbers and like them too. I've tried the XD's and they're ok but not for me. I've got my eye on a baby Glock and a Kimber.

I'd say that you might want to see if you can come out with us one of these days when we have a Range Day and see what others use. Pretty much everyone can help you with shooting pointers.

Take care!!!!

Default Hey Mitch

Hey Mitchell,

Glad to see more Sacramento shooters on here. I live in Rancho Cordova, and from what I hear it's SUPER difficult to get a CCW in Sac county right now, so it looks like were in the same boat.

I usually go let off a few hundred rounds at the Gun Room in Elk Grove a few times a month. They've got a pretty large facility over there, and an in-house store, training and gun-smithing. You should look them up.

Good luck.

welcome welcome, i as well am from sacramento.. i would highly recommend the gun room in elk grove, i cant stand rancho shooting range it just seems a little too ghetto for me... mangan is also another good one that is where most people train for tests and security and as such.
