When someone is on active duty, they count as their residence the place from which they entered the service. So, for example, upon signing up in the Marines, you are a resident of Texas, that's the place you are a resident of for military purposes. You keep your Texas drivers license, you vote at your polling place just as before, absentee probably, etc.

If you entered active duty from, say, Kern County, you are registered to vote there, etc. and it is the place to which you intend to return when you leave the military, I would argue that you are a still resident of that county, and apply there. The Sheriff there is much more accommodating to CCW. The CCW issued in any county is valid in ALL counties in California.

I have business all over the state. I could pretty much make any place my residence, my domicile, even if I might not be present there for months at a time.

You may wish to reference Utah as they are cheaper than Fl. and cover as many states with the difference of Fl.= Pennsylvania whereas Utah= Washington.

I have a Florida CCW, got it when I was based there, now I have the non-resident Florida CCW. That is a good one to have. Good deal.

Longtime member of TXCHLFORUM.COM and saw posting there about this new site. Congrats on getting it going...Main residence in TX but have a home in San Diego as well...(well make that a shoebox in CA!). NRA Life, TSRA Life members. Wife and I CHL/CCW license holders and carriers 24/7 for me; wife somewhat less. Me: Sig 229-9, 239-9, Kahr 9mm. Wife Sig 232-.380, Lady S&W .38 Spl.

What have yall done to this fine state? Lordy!
....I was born here...raised in AZ...went to college in CA...worked when younger. I cannot believe what the heck in going on with CCW in this state.
I doubt I'd have tinkers **** of a chance in getting a CCW for CA.

Well...guess, time for me to do some more research and this site is a great start for me.

Welcome Skipper5. If your primary residence is in Texas, you won't be issued a CCW in California. Hope for reciprocity, but don't hold your breath. There is no CA state legislation currently underway to allow it. Maybe if the Federal national reciprocity bill passes.

Well ....tax base is in TX...but have property in San Diego; pay property taxes, utilities, phone, Time Warner, have a car registered and domiciled in CA, live out there a couple months a year- in fact, President of our HOA there. Have a TX DL now....but imagine I could have enough grounds to get a CA ID card.

Haven't drilled down to CA requirements that far....>>>am I still going to have qualifying problems re: residence describing the above facts?

By moving to CA, you will lose the CCW and gain the requirement to pay state income taxes on your income. You can replace the Texas CCW with a multi-state permit good in TExas and some other states, not CA, but odds of getting one in SD are very slim. Instead of San Diego, move to Kern, Orange or Mariposa County and visit here sometimes.

I'm heading the other way. As soon as I finish up some investment properties, I'm 1031'ing the properties for some in Texas, and, as David Crockett once told his former constituents, "You all can go to hell, I'm going to Texas!"
