Retiring from military to SoCal

Hello forum members,
RedrockX here, looking to find information and guidance from those here who seem very knowledgable of the different aspects of CCW.

My goal is to learn facts, rights, propper (suggested) procedures, as well as join in on the discussions of the "grey areas"
...where topics are usually missunderstood or confused, for the chance to learn and get spun up on these issues so everyone is on the same page, i look forward to learning from those who have been there or have knowledge on a subject that i/we can learn more from.

Some personal facts on me: 43yr old, grew up with rifles and hand guns as a part of life on a farm in a safe/responsible outdoorsman, spent the past 21yrs active duty military, with many deployments under my belt.

Now looking to grow roots here in southern California and would like to legally CCW (as a civillian) for the continued protection of myself and my family and friends.

You will not find a better forum regarding CCW in California.

There are a large number of folks here more than willing to share their knowledge and help in any way they can.

I do encourage you to check the FAQs and previous posts first (search is your friend) as most of your initial questions will most likely be answered there.

I am also retired military and thank you for your service. I am a tad bit older than you, but not so old that we probably served together somewhere. My time in the military made me realize just how the small the world can be and how close the military family really is.

You will find a great deal of appreciation for the military on this forum.

enjoying searching the forums and finding most of what i'm looking for.

as for my service... if we've "officially" been there.. then i've been there.

anything else was just a training exercise.

i'm gonna hate having to figure out what to wear to a new job every day..!
if i find a job around here that is... ( i hear Walmart is a good hang out )

Welcome RedrockX. I served in the US Marine Corps down at that end of the state, many moons ago (I have a few years on you...).

Good luck on getting your CCW soon.

Have you decided what weapons/ calibers that you will be carrying, when you get your piece of paper????? You will have to qualify with, and present to the issuing agency - the exact weapons, when you do your initial paperwork.

Since you are in Hesperia, you'll find that San Bernardino Co. is one of the better places for getting a CCW. The SBSD personnel are helpful. Read the county FAQs. We'll take it from there.!

Welcome to the forum and to the County. I am just over the Cajon Pass from you. If you find yourself in 'town', as we call San Bernardino, head on over to the Sheriff's office off of Waterman Ave on Third St and pick up an app. Hesperia contracts with the SO for their Police needs.

We (me AND the wife are somewhat avid shooters) look forward to socializing with forum members, punching some holes in paper targets
and picking up some good ideas and info from you.

I did look into the AV gun club but i see "The club is CLOSED to the public Until Further Notice"...? ( is this now a "members only" thing...?)


Well, back to the "search" link... and see what the past post have brought up.



Just remember... PAPER targets dont shoot back...
