Default New to the forum and have a Kern County GC question.

I am about to apply for a CCW in Kern county. I am not a doctor/bailbonds/large amount of cash carrier etc. With this being said I need help with a good cause for a CCW?

I had a CCW for years when I lived in Indiana and I didn't even give them a reason. I just paid $35 and got fingerprinted and magically, 6 weeks later my permit came in the mail.

I have seen some Good Cause examples listed on different sites but they don't exactly apply to me. EDITED TO REMOVE GOOD CAUSE INFO...HC

Also, How much is the application fee? I have called the sheriffs number on the CCW application and left a message but I have not gotten any response.

Thanks everybody

Mike

Hello and welcome. Try the "search" function above for questions in your county. We do not discuss GCs in public.

"To and from work only" ? I guess I am just unsure of how strict Kern county is about the GC reason.

Also, How much is the application fee? I have called the sheriffs number on the CCW application and left a message but I have not gotten any response.

Welcome!
I am an instructor here in Kern and we help folks with their GC statements. I think you have a good shot at it. PM me and we can talk. Also, I will send you an article re: good cause that is very helpful.

Kern County does not generally recognize "recreational reasons" to get a permit. Travel for work and medical, on call, work in remote locations, that is usually good enough. However, company prohibitions about guns in the car on the "lease" of oil companies creates problems.

There is no obligation to come to me for training and I don't advertise in this forum. But I am glad to help a fellow traveler!

Welcome aboard. Kern is very reasonable. Do not post GC here as it is against our policy. Everyones GC is their own. Once you have what you feel is a good GC though you should e-mail CCWI @ greg@firearmstraining.com with GC review in the subject line. He is our local SME and will go review it for you.

We have a member here who instructs in the Kern area for CCW and other classes,,, El Gato.

If you are using travel-to-work as a reason for GC, does the Sheriff require that your employer be notified since you will be taking a firearm onto company site?

I too work at a power plant (CRO), and this same exact subject has been on my mind. Not that I'm going to actually carry at work (I carry enough crap here lol), but its the trip that I'm concerned with. I also can be called out any time, any day.

What power plant are you at Mike? I lived in Bakersfield mid-90's, and worked at Rio Bravo Poso & Jasmin off of highway 65 during that time. Also did a (very) short stint at Delano Energy before that, what a pile that plant was!

I'm sorry for the misunderstanding. I am not trying to get or use someone else's GC. I just want to know if mine sounds reasonable. I am always open to a PM about it.

As far as work goes my company does not allow a gun on site but in my vehicle would be OK.

MCassle:

I work at Sunrise power north of Taft. We are a relativly new plant(2 7FA'S AND AN ALSTOM p320) so you might not know about us. It is the drive that concerns me, not the plant security itself.

Lot's of new gas fired power plants going up this decade. The plant I'm at was commissioned Sept. 05', two simple-cycle GE LM6000 (PC). Peaking plant, kinda different from the base-loaded cfb boilers I was used to running.

When I was in Bakersfield, my dentist was in Taft. I can understand your concern about safety.

Our plant was commissioned in 01' as 2 simple cycle GE 7FA+e then added two alstom HRSG's and alstom steamer. These were on-line in 03-04'. We have our first major on the GE 7fa and a "level B" on our steamer coming in October right after peak. It's going to be 5 weeks of *******s and elbows.

A 5 week outage sounds downright brutal. I've done some month long turbine majors, no fun as no one gets a day off until it's done. Add in 12 hour shifts and folks can become pretty cranky a couple weeks into it.

Sorry to hear you added heat recovery. I'm enjoying no steam. Our outages are five days, twice a year lmao. Did I mention I love my job?

Welcome aboard. As written before, check out the FAQ sections of the forum. You'll find answers to many of your questions. However, don't hesitate to ask questions. The only stupid questions are the ones not asked. Also, mailto:greg@firearmstraining.com is a fantastic resource for GC statements.
Again, welbcome.

Mike, please have CCWInstructor greg@firearmstraining.com review your GC prior to turning in your application.

Put "Good Cause Review" in the subject line.

Welcome to the Forum - CCWI is the GC Master, and GC is the crux in California.

I used to be in the non-utility generation business in the early 80's, and two of my current partners (business - not the "other" kind) own some coal fueled QFs in Montana - I would think that owning a power plant that has even a small increment of dispatchable peak capacity would be a gold mine in California these days.
