Yes The Gun Room has a great selection, but they are way over priced. There is a guy on the other side of Grantline road. His name is Branden, the store is called Wild Bill's Trading Post. I've bought guns from him for the last 3 years and his out the door prices are usually $100.00 cheaper than the sticker price on the guns at The Gun Room.

I'm not sure if ptbarnacle might have been referring to ranges instead of purchases, but good to know about Wild Bill's Trading Post either way.

I'm interested in ranges, since I'm in Sac Cty fairly often. Gun Room vs. other locations for practice?

I go to Sac Valley outdoor range quite a bit. First class operation and very safe. Covered shooting positions at each range. You can set your target stand at any range you choose. A seperate 300 yard range open to all after a simple 100 yard qualification. 300 yard range is seperately controlled by the shooting group. They have a lot of ranges for different training. 1buba may chime in with more info. I know he's taken some courses there as well as shot there more than me.

The Gun Room has about 8 indoor lanes. Small but well kept range side. The other side is the retail. Decent lighting and ventilation. They have markings for 7 yards, 10 yards, 15 yards and 25 yards. And a couple others I think. They rent guns, including the S&W 460 and 500.

Cordova Shooting Center range can be a little rough with the clientel. The range is falling apart and not the best place to shoot. It is easy to get to for me, but not the best experience. I wouldn't recomend it.

I believe the gun room has 24 lanes, 12 on each side.

Sacramento City has a shooting range too, but their hours are pretty limited for the public to shoot there. The Mangan Range is actually a fairly decent range, they just "suffer" from having such restrictive hours. I've taken a PC 832 Firearms course that had their range time there. Good course, good range, bad hours.

I shot 3 gun at Magnan for years. Used to be a bit of an old boys club, but with a little effort on my part, they became good friends.

I'm w/ PT on Cordova - I wouldn't recommend it. They are being encroached upon by new sub-divisions and I'm sure they will be shut down before too long.

The Gun Room has the nicest/only indoor facility, but like so many places, they suffer from poor service and a worse lack of knowledge. Prices are high, though I would probably expect that in this day and age. I have a friend that is doing lead remediation - boy are they in for a surprise when they have to do it the firs time.

SacValley is my all around favorite. GREAT place. Membership driven, and open to the public. There is a new GM there that I haven't really figured out yet... They have a GREAT tactical rifle club. I know there are several others there, but that is the only one that I have been a part of.

RE: training, I did train w/ TFTT there several years ago - too 2 (maybe 3, can't remember) classes. My experience with them combined with documented accounts of safety issues that they have had down at Burro in SoCal, I won't be using them anymore. But, that's just me.

For training up here, I understand there is a new operation opening up in Napa that might be worth looking into.

However, for the last 2 years (maybe 3?) all my training (except my CCW, that must be done with a local) has been done with Self Defense Firearms Traning and Greg Block. What started out as a desire to better defend my loved ones and myself has turned into a friendship that I value dearly.
