Welcome aboard. If you're interested in obtaining an CCW you've come to the right place.

Welcome! And then figure out which of the two counties issues most liberally!

Then go get it!

Very unlikely that that they could. If you know one of them VERY well, you could use him to write one of your letters of reference. That *might* give you a *little* more credibility - but it's doubtful that it would do any more than the same letter from your neighbor or co-worker.

ok...i had just heard somewhere that if a respected officer knows you and knows that you are responsible with firearms, he can put the "good word" in. guess it was a myth lol

My current CCW was issued by the Stanislaus County Sheriff Dept.
My previous CCW was issued by the Modesto Police Dept. Letters of recommendation we're not asked for in either application.

Basically, you pick up or download the standard application, fill it out and return it to whatever agency. They do a background check and let you know their decision. The only documentation I submitted with my application was to support my good cause. You can attach letters if you want, they will accept them but they were not required. Once approved they give you a list of CCW instructors they will accept certificates from, then you get live scanned.

I'm not sure if Oakdale PD issues or defers to the Sheriffs office.

I have very close friend who is an FTO. I had him write me a reference letter. No where on it would anyone know his profession. I didn't think it was neccessary for the issuing county to know he is an officer.
