Default New in San Mateo County

I didn't see a county for me in the county section?

What does that mean?

I plan on documenting my trials for a CCW.

Welcome, just hang out here a little, read the FAQs and DO NOT post your GC questions here. They must be your own. You can bounce them off of a few people here. They should pop up to help, if not let me know and I can direct you to them ...

Who would i bounce them off, i know not to publicly post them

A couple of paragraphs is fine IF it is all meat and no fat.

Your county only has 55 permits issued. Hence, no FAQ.

Thank you, I was thinking of Marin County. Still a very small number compared to the population of your county.

Very true, but the most in the central bay area, so i think it might stand a chance.

From reading previous posts, it seems like email is best for you

I emailed sherriff Greg Munks of San Mateo County Sherriffs Department a couple days ago to to verify that i apply with my City first then to the Sherrifs department. He was very nice and responded promptly. Never in his emails did he mention not to bother. He even told me that if my local police department declines the CCW application to apply with his office.

Good for you! Just don't get your hopes up. Legally he cannot tell you not to apply or refuse to to accept your application. That is covered by penal code.

He does have 90 days to accept or deny you after accepting your application.

Hmmnn, when I did my PRA in 2006, the sherrif office stated (response in writing) 162 current permit issued.
Also, if you are denied by your chief, consequent re-application to your sheriff is considered appeal. Also, chief of different city does not issue permit, they only accept, review and if your GC is found acceptable, recommendation for issuance of permit is forwarded to the sheriff. This was under Horsley's term. Dont know about Munks, but I assume to be the same. Request and ask for their policy.

Default Not a chance in hell...

I worked in and out of the Office of Professional Standards where they do the investigations for any CCW. I can give you the direct number to speak with the one guy that actually recommends to the Sheriff Munks who gets one and who don't. There is no point in talking to the Sheriff directly because unless you are his buddy( or Carlos Bolanos or trisha Sanchez buddies) it is not going to help. If you have a GOOD and TRUE story ready you MIGHT get lucky. The only guy that got one while I was there lives the the boonies and has to go off into the hills for the watershed. At night he can see all of the fires from the drug growers from his house. I heard a Sargent in the narcotics task force saying his guys find it scary to go driving back there because of the drugs growers and the poachers. They go in by black hawk when they do. That justified some kind of restricted CCW. Full CCW?? Unless the mafia is actively trying to kill you, I mean bullet holes in your windows, go spend the money on Lotto tickets...
