Hello,
Thanks for the great site! I was very happy to be able to stumble upon you guys from Google. I'm interested in getting my CCW for peice of mind honestly. The city I'm living in has changed dramatically and has given me a very unsafe feeling at night. I honestly don't want to ever harm another human being, or play vigilante justice, I just want to know if ever put in the situation of being harmed myself I can protect myself and wife. I also do horseback riding frequently and we are out in the hills alone, with no source of protection other than a handgun would offer us. I know I could always use a rifle, but, I'd rather just have one weapon for all personal safety against any animals or heaven forbid people with the intent to harm in the middle of no where. That's always in the back of my mind for some reason and I would much rather be prepared than just wishing I had been. Here's where it's going to get 'fuzzy'. I don't have alot of experience with weapons. I've shot a .45 of my father's years ago and other than childhood things really just know the BASICS (I.E if you see a gun laying on the table, always presume it's loaded and unsafetied and so on...) I have not even bought a handgun, was looking for opinions. I liked the feel of the .45 very much, i have large hands and liked that the weapon had some weight to it. I have been told Glocks are very popular as well but have no experience. I would like a weapon that i can keep holstered to my belt and not be real obvious (if anyone could even tell) preferably. Thank you in advance for all your suggestions, I welcome them and look forward to hearing from all of you! - Jason |

First thing welcome to CalCCW!!!
Check out the Kimber Ultra CDP II. They are probably the single most popular CCW on CalCCW. Kimber - Continuing The Legacy: Ultra CDP II |

Unfortunately, from what I understand, it is not very easy to get a CCW in Monterey. As of 2005 there were only 123 issued in Monterey.

If you are looking for training, I have to say that CCWI's basic handgun class is a great place to start. I just went on Sunday and I have to say, it was a very fun not to mention informative class. You can check it out here. Quote:

Remember, you must consider Monterey County's population is 410,206.
Most of the County has little to no crime. The last murder outside of Salinas was a few years ago. Quote:
