Yes, you are correct. We are not one of the 40 shall issue states.

San Diego has what, a million people, but only 1200 have concealed carry permits? I'm disturbed that every single county sheriff gets to interpret the law differently - "good cause" in one county means one thing, but something totally different in another. I've been reading the posts here - It's not a U.S. Supreme Court issue, but it certainly is a California Supreme Court issue. I'm surprised there hasn't been a challenge to this yet - maybe there has that I'm not aware of, but legal definitions have to be uniform - and applied uniformly. Maybe it's time the courts defined "good cause," and not the sheriffs.
I'm sure that there have been some challenges to this in the past, but I doubt many get very far off the floor... I've heard of some more recent stuff, but all that stuff is supposed to be in it's infancy. Who knows where that will lead anyway.

Right now, it just is what it is.

Even better, "law-abiding legal resident". We have several members here that are such but are not yet citizens.

Interesting observation, Qlo. You're right, based on just numbers alone, it does look easier to get a CCW in SD rather than OC. The US Census Bureau shows OC as having more people that SD, but SD has more permits, so statistically it's easier to get a permit in San Diego than Orange County. Everyone here has always though it to be the other way around. Anyone have any thoughts on this?

Also, Qlo, PM Admin and he'll put the CCW symbol next to your avatar.

Hey can you quit hosing us down!!!

The fact is, SD's CCWs are going down big time! People going for renewals are not being renewed. Call it "there is a new sheriff in town".

Based upon my own experience, and admittedly that is little, I have found the process in SDC to be quite straight forward and well-organized. Although I must agree with what has been said here in this forum that the GC statement weighs heavily. But it seems as though applications with reasonable requests generally fly.

Here’s a thread by a junior member who is a lawyer and got a CCW in San Diego. Note the restriction they placed on it.

Good points...theirs are going down and ours are going up. I'd be interested in finding out their current numbers...the AG's are usually a year and a half or so behind.

Roger that, done.

Read those threads previously. Good info on them. The downward trend in CCWs issued is concerning. Perhaps it represents the changing demographics of San Diego as it mirrores that of the rest of the state. I hope that the San Diego contingent continues to grow on this forum as well as in CCW #'s

My understanding is that it reflects tougher criteria on the part of the current Sheriff, and that he has pullled in permits that were issued without renewing them.
