Strider, your offer was more than appropiate, but as CCWI says this site was formed with a goal of helping folks obtaining their permits 1 person at a time.
I thought twice before offering the information location to you, but did because I felt your offer was very generous and saw no harm.

In aspect of staying with the spirit of our site your offer was declined for the reasons CCWI stated.

The best way you can donate to the site is to share your knowlege and experiences with us and by remaining an active member here as you have the time.

Any misunderstanding here is mine and you have no need for an apology as your offer was sincere and generous.

I don't see this whole event as a bad thing. No apologies are needed from anyone. It caused us to think about the purpose of this site and reaffirm our goals . It illustrate what I consider the true gun culture where gun owners are willing to help each other with money, effort, or time.

I agree and with this issue resolved through a sticky we can move on with the important mission of assisting folks with their desire to provide their own self protection through CCW issue.

I want to apply for a CCW because we have large sums of cash in house, I carry large sums of cash (all of my employees carry their own drawer, and I carry an excess for additional change needed), I deposit large sums of cash 2-4 times a week and I also travel frequently (job related).

I'm concerned for the well being of myself, my girlfriend (also an employee), my employees and my business. Do I stand a good chance of being approved for a CCWP?
Welcome from Kern...

First.. many, many Tulare county folks have permits.... It sounds like you have "good cause"... especially if you have to travel for work related reasons. Making deposits and opening/closing the business is an important point to include. It is generally not a good idea to put down recreational reasons. Sometimes it seems Tulare county residents have an easier time getting permits than Kern county residents. If you PM me I will send you a copy of the CRPA article on how to formulate a "good cause" statement.

There are some good trainers in Fresno/Kern County but I don't know about Kings County. Also there is a great trainer I heard about in SLO county but he is kinda expensive. Do check around and ask about prices. Some very good trainers are very resonable for training and offer regular classes. Try to pick someone who offers classes a couple of times each month, which translates into someone who is doing alot of training... which might mean they put on a pretty good class.

Talk to each one personally on the phone. Find one that teaches with a passion. Don't go to one who is just in it for the money.

Excellant suggestion..!

Be cautious about the "high-speed-low-drag-ninja-warrior" types unless that is your thing... killing on the battlefield can be very different from trying very had to avoid having to employ deadly force on the street...

I have taken classes from an instructor in Orange County and from other instructors out of state and elsewhere... when it comes to ccw stuff... remember the central valley and the eastern sierra are a different breed of cat... take some classes and get a broad range of views... read Massad Ayoob's "in the gravest extreme" and then "On Combat" by Col. Grossman... then read some more... enjoy it... shoot because it is fun and shoot because you might need to solve a problem involving deadly force... get the ladies in your life involved in the fun stuff too...shoot often

That's a great suggestion as far as training in general. However, for the specific training required for the CCW, you have to get training from someone who is approved by your SD.

Tulare County and Kern County tend to be very... shall we say...libertarian about the people allowed to do training. Kern County has a list... it is one page and has about a dozen instructors. I believe two of the instructors do about 90% of the training.

The Sheriff's office here in Visalia gave me a page of instructors. I asked them if The Range in Fresno would be ok to use. She told me that as long as it's a certified 4 hour class, they didn't really care. I've heard some good things about the CCW instructor at The Range. They do classes weekly, and if it's the same instructor as it was a year or so ago, then he's a lawyer and has some excellent tips on what one can and can't do with a CCW.

I'm actually going to the class this Thursday evening. I would make the trip down to OC to see Greg, as money isn't an issue, but time is the issue right now. I've been work 70-80 hour weeks as of late, so I just can't afford the time to go down there right now. I do, however, have a lot of friends that live down in OC/LA area, so I'll be hitting up Greg for some future instruction for both my girlfriend (she loves shooting) and me.
