Default Hello All new to site I need information and help!

Hello all how are you doing? I have read much on the forum and the site and am in awe of the amount of knowldge that I have found on here. I had no idea that I was if you would say "NOT ALONE!"

I currently own a buisness in the city of Garden Grove. I am the 100% owner and CEO of the company. My business was appraised for 2.5 million 1 year ago. I work on Honda cars, and if you have ever seen the movie The Fast and the Furious, these are the cars and the offer services too. I specialize in Honda and Acura tunning and am a reaserch and development for testing of new technology and performance automotive parts haveing to do with raceing.

I have robbed 3 times once at gun point over the past 10 years. As I have greatly progressed in expanding my buisness and it has always been my concern when leaveing at night if somone is going to rob me. Unfortunatly for me I was robbed at gun point outside of my own home, just this last saturday night. I pulled into my drive way and I should have just kept driving when I saw them but I was iggnorant, so I got out of my car and two men aproched me one with a gun and told me to give all that I had. Haveing $15,000.00 on me I threw my bag into my car and locked it then, ran for my life to my neighbors house, and the men fled. When they left I realised there was 2 cars and a total of 6 people. I feel that these two men were possibly trying to get me in my home and then their 4 friends follow inside and do a home invasion. The car they were driveing was a fixed up Acura Integra and a G35. Both cars that I specialize in so I feel that it may be people whom I have had bad buisness dealings with.

I am in desperate need to know do I qualify to carry a CCW as I feel that need it. Although I am not overly desiering to carry a gun, however I am afraied of leaving my work and now after 6 years of never a single problem at home, ive been robbed right outside my own home! I was told by a Marine who works for me at my shop to get on this site before I try to apply for a CCW, as he said you guys all know what your doing.

Thanks again for those who created this site and for all of the members who support it. The information is been worth more than GOLD! if there are any events that the site hold I would love to attend.

Unfortunately there is no easy answer to your question...

You may apply with either the Torrance PD or with the Los Angeles County Sheriff's Dept.

The City of Torrance FAQ page indicates:

Where/How do I obtain a permit to carry a firearm?

California has strict restrictions on the criteria to carry a concealed firearm, however the Chief of Police may in certain circumstances issue a permit to a resident of the City of Torrance. The first step in this process requires that you contact the Department Intelligence Officer at 310-618-5709 during normal business hours.

L.A. County Sheriff will not issue you a CCW license.
Torrance is in the L.A. County area, so unless you are rich or famous or just donate large sums of money towards the sheriff's campaign, plain and simple, it is practically impossible to get the permit. Other counties like San bernardino and riverside will issue you a CCW license within reason, the balance of the neighboring counties are "touch and go". You must be a resident of a county to get that county's CCW permit.
Follow the advice of the previous poster to explore the possibility of a CCW where you are, procedurally you are supposed to apply at your local police first.
You probably know that there is no law against carrying a firearm while in your privately owned home or business, so you can do so there. The problem is while you are outside of these locations. The BGs know this, and that your county does not normally issue, so they figure these factors into the formula, they exploit this and that is why they were waiting for you outside of these locations.
Arm yourself while in your property, until you find a way to cover yourself elsewhere. You might consider moving your residence to a better county where a law abiding citizen can get a CCW permit, self defense is a right stipulated in our constitution, but restricted by the power of special interests.
You must note that, some counties like San Bernardino, require a year of residency prior to starting the CCW permit application process. However, once you get the permit, that permit is good throughout California.
I think, that is one of your possible solutions, easier said than done, but in the end, it is your life on the line. Good luck....we'll be here!
Additionally, if you arm yourself, get some training on the proper usage and safe handling of a firearm, the legal aspects, get a referral to a competent firearms attorney, and educate yourself in case you need to defend yourself, do the brain work, depressing a trigger is easy, but an action of last resort. That action can in turn trigger a series of events that will change your life forever...... In the end you must live!.

Welcome! Nice to see another Honda guy on here. If you have any parts that need torture testing, let me know. Good luck on the permit. I'm in Sacramento, So I have no idea on how to help you with it, but youve come to the right place!

Welcome aboard Sonic2000 good to have you with us.

Listen to X-ffdo, good advice he knows of what he speaks.

You may want to do some research on situational awareness (of which you got a lesson recently at home).

Take a critical look at the layout of your home such as how you come & go.
Do you park outside and walk in or do you pull into a garage.
Can you fence off the front of the house so as to restrict the comings & goings of others?

Definitely consider arming yourself the moment you walk in the door.

Good luck.

Welcome Sonic2000!!

I beg to differ with X-ffdo and EM2. We do have some members of this forum who have permits from LA Co. It is very difficult but it is doable. If I were you I would start with Torrance and see if you can get it there. If they do not issue or if they turn you down, then try the LASO. Be prepared to spend a lot of time on it. The costs are nominal in context to what it is worth to be able to protect you and your family.

Your situation sounds to me like the quintessential perfect good cause for even the toughest of jurisdictions. If you have police reports or can get copies of them for all of the robberies I would think you would be golden.

While it would be quite a bit easier to get a permit if you moved to the Inland Empire, you would not be able to move a business like yours without a big hit in revenue. You would have to commute a LONG way every day. I would go for it if I were you. Like I said, a bit of coin (maybe $300-$600??) and a bunch of your time getting all of your proof together.

So stick around and gather information. If you have any specific questions, just ask. Hope you find success. It can be done in LA County.

Keith

welcome

Keith is correct, it can be done,

one thing I would like to point out is:

You are posting on a Public Forum.

I would not post such as you have done,

just me and my opinion,

always security conscious.

good luck to you in your quest

Post Thank you ALL!

Hello all and thank you all so very much for you HELP!! I have in a way bee PUSHED into this world of trying to find a way to protect myslef. I have never concerned myself over the past years as we all want to think that we are safe and "Thank cant happend to me!" Yet now that I have become not only a victim where my buisness has been robbed, but now, I have been ROBBED!

My employee and long time friend is a Marine and has starting training me a lot about situational awarness, and security minded. For the gentlman that mentioned you would not have said what I did, can you message me in more detail? I am still learning to navigate this site.

I have always been concerned about what if, and we can all paint one million different scenarios, yet its prepareing for that one scenaro where our life is on the line, that all the years we have spent prepareing for, we survive. My employee simply told me that under the cercumstances of somone pointing a gun at your face, nothing exsists but stay alive. I read on this forum somwhere it would be better to be tried by twelve than carried by six. This is exactly how I feel. I have all the police reports from each crime and I have an application filled out and with a short statment for what is called good cause. However following advice of my friend and those who are on this site, I am holding off until I can find what exactly ( or be sure of ) Do I qualify for a CCW being a buisness owner and under such extreame cercumstances?

So would I apply with torrance PD first and then LASO. Any further information would be greatly appriciated, and if anyone knows what the legal definition of good cause is, please let me know.

Thanks again. =)

I don't know squat about Torrance's issuing policies, but I will say that its at least a 'good sign' that they at least have contact information on their website (which I already posted in Post Number 2)

I can also say that they aren't likely any more difficult then LASD (note: Its Los Angeles County Sheriff's Department, not an 'office' like most Sheriff entities)

With what you posted in your original post it actually sounds like it meets the 'extreme' circumstances that Sheriff Baca espouses...then again he's pretty notorious for saying one thing and doing another so take that all with a grain of salt

The only thing I can say with absolute certainty is that applying through LASD will NOT be an easy, cheap or quick process...

Be safe! ...also don't forget that there are many other legal self defense options beyond CCW licensing especially for private property which you own and your business. Keep up the research! I highly recommend the California forum at OpenCarry.org - A Right Unexercised is a Right Lost! ... and Calguns.net as additional resources of information.

From my experience and knowledge of the situation in L.A. county area, yes it is possible to get a CCW permit, however the probabilities of a denial are high.
Secondly, he does not have to move his business, as I stated earlier, a CCW permit is good throughout the state so if he moves just his residence, he is covered provided that his city/county issues him a CCW.
Don't ask me how I know but, I know of CCW permits issued to some individuals in Westlake Village and Agoura. these guys certainly live in an area of low crime and are people of high stature....that is why they got it! And those are not area of high crime then again.
I say, if you don't shoot you can't score, you should try for it, good luck!.
No sugar coating here. In the meantime this man's rear end is on the line and he needs action and results.
