by the way, i found this site via the north american hunting club. i am also a member of the nra and tnusa.

just thought i'd add that. question. i kinda looked around the site, and i noticed that in order to get a ccw, you have to have good cause. what constitutes good cause?

Welcome to the site. There is plenty to learn and the folks to learn it from can be found right here.
GC (good cause) is something besides self defense that sets you aside from the general population. Some examples: Doctor with class III drugs, Jeweler carrying expensive product, business owner making large cash deposits, etc.
There are more, but that is a sampling. You need to figure out what your personal reasons are to help the issuing authorities decide you have a reasonable need for self protection over and above the average citizen.
Think hard and make notes about your ideas. When you are ready the folks here will be more than happy to assist in your presentation of need.
Good luck and again Welcome aboard.

Now, that is the million dollar question. Even though the CCW is a state license, it is issued on a local or county level. It varies from sheriff to sheriff, chief to chief, and county to county. In some counties, self protection is good cause, in others it is not. In some counties, it is giving $10,000 to the sheriff's re-election fund. We are all here to try to help people figure out what that good cause is that they personally have for the jurisdiction they live in. There is no standard answer to the question.

It also can depend on where you live in the county. I seem to remember that residents of the CITY of Riverside have to apply to the Chief of Police, but I'd like some confirmation on that to be certain.

Welcome aboard Good! It all depends, because everyone has their own personal reason.

Some examples:
  • Firearms Industry (dealers, Instructors, competitors, etc.)
  • Jewelers
  • High Value Business (any cash business or valuable product)
  • Attorney
  • Private Investigator
  • Bail Enforcement/Bounty Hunter
  • Restraining Order/Threat
  • Medical Doctor (any that can prescribe)
  • Executive Protection Agent (bodyguard)

Now you don't have to necessarily fit these descriptions. Like I said, everyone may have different reasons. Different strokes for different folks you know.

Again, glad to have you aboard.

Welcome aboard, please let us know when you have formulated a good cause. There will be some people to help you review. Do not post your GC on the public side.
