Default (newbie) female iterested in CCW. help

Hello!

I am 20 years old, and will be turning 21 in July. I am very interested in CCW, especially after the murders right around the corner from my house (Chelsea King/Amber Dubois). I am interested in getting it for personal protection, especially since im only 110 and 5'3", and am wondering how likely this would be. I have grown up with guns my whole life, I'm a very good shot, and have a ton of experiance. I also have a perfectly clean background. Please help. Thanks!

Welcome to the site. You are in San Diego county right? If so, I think your county is one of the more difficult counties to obtain a permit in. Seems like you may have a good reason so at least you have that going for you. I am sure others with more info on your county will post up more info than I have. Good luck!

Welcome to our site. Right now, getting a CCW can be a challenge in San Diego County. Within the next year, things should improve dramatically between legal cases that are in the works and possibly replacing our anti-gun Sheriff. There is a lot to read here, lots of helpful people (many of them women with CCWs), and even a sub-forum especially for the ladies (Big Nose Kate's). I agree with you about the recent news. It is a very painful reminder of the monsters that live amongst us.

Welcome. I'd wait till you turn 21 (not legally required, but just what I would do). In the meantime, start working on your application / good cause and jog with a buddy. Great to have you here. Not enough females on this male-dominated forum.

Welcome to the site. Good luck in getting a CCW license. I believe that general fear will not be sufficient good cause in San Diego County.

Thanks everyone for your replys. I am very involved in politics and have already learned a lot about Jay, and of course do plan on voting for him. It's not even that I am scared, but I mean I have guns at my house that I plan to use if need be for protection, so why should I not also be allowed to carry one outside of my house???!!! It's just crazy how hard the libs make it for us to use our own rights!

Welcome to the forum!! You have your work cut out for you in San D. It can be done, but not without a lot of effort. Greg is a great resource and I am sure he will be happy to help...

Welcome dansgirl!!

San Diego is a tough one. With all the recent public events in your neck of the woods, maybe it will make a difference and change the Sheriffs attitude towards CCW. I doubt it though. I think you may be better off with a new sheriff. Your chances of getting a permit if you are under 21 are even slimmer since you cannot legally purchase a handgun. The only way to legally own one if you are under 21 is to inherit it.

I hope things go your way. Good luck,

Keith

PS: +1 on having Greg review your GC statement. Your best chance is to have an expert critique it.

Welcome to the forum Dansgirl! It's always good to have some estrogen here to balance things out a bit. I can't speak to San Diego specifically, but I can tell you I wish that your petite stature was good enough cause for a CCW, but I'm afraid it's not. I'm 5'2" 125, so I can relate...

Enjoy the forums & welcome again.
