Please HELP!!! I live in the City of San Bernardino and for some strange reason I thought that SBSD was the jurisdiction here. Well, now that I have all my application, letters, & misc documentation put together and all ready for my interview which is scheduled for THIS FRIDAY, I found out from a buddy of mine that San Bernardino PD has to deny my app 1st before I can go to SBSD!!! AWWWW CRAP!!! What do I do now? From reading other posts, I know I shouldn't cancel my appointment. Does anyone know if maybe SBPD will deny me over the counter or is there a wait time involved?

SB City Police will NOT give you a denial letter on the spot. My interviewer in the City of SB specifically expressed disbelief that some people have the nerve to ask for a denial letter right away. However, SB Police is efficient. It took about 2 weeks to get the interview date, and another 2 weeks to get the denial letter, so it's a month on average, sometimes less.
I recently had the interview at the Sheriff's Dept and at least once, they asked for the CITY denial letter, so I'd reschedule if I were you. Just be up front with the Sheriff's Dept and maybe they'll let it slide and still let you interview. If not, no big deal, at least you were honest. (My advice is the same as TheGimper above). |

I would just go for the interview and continue the process of obtaining your license.

...on the cover page of the green packet, it does clearly say in LARGE letters... if any part of the application is incomplete, the interview must be rescheduled. The lady behind the counter asked me if I had the SB City letter. There was a reason why she asked BEFORE the interview. (I guess the OP will have to decide which advice to take).

Thanks for all the help, guys... Due to the holiday, I was finally able to get a hold of SBSD today and explained my situation/miskate to them and they just told me to call them and reschedule after I try SBPD. The lady on the phone seemed pretty cool about it. However, the challenge now seems to be getting a hold of the right person at SBPD. I tried calling the the guy (Bob Goss) at SBPD several times and the phone just keeps ringing. I think I'm just gonna have to bug someone over there again until I get the right person.
If anyone has any inside info about SBPD or any experience, please let me know. What do they require to apply? |

Easy. SBPD has a pretty systematic procedure. Forget about calling. You should go in person first. My interviewer was a lady, NOT the Bob guy.
Tell the person at the window you wish to apply for a CCW. They will give you a name and number to call. When you call, if you don't get through right away, they will return your call. You will be briefed on their CCW produdure which is essentially shall NOT issue. You will be asked if you have been threatened, etc. After the brief conversation, they will tell you they will leave the CCW application at the front desk. After you pick up the application, filling it out is easy (no references required). You will call again to schedule an interview. BONUS: There is now NO fee to apply at SBPD! The interview is brief (10 minutes or so). They will repeat that they only issue CCW's if there are imminent threats against your life (which rules out 99.9% of applicants). They will tell you they will submit it to the Chief. If good cause is found, you will proceed. If not, they will mail you a letter. My interview took 2 weeks to get and another 1 week to get denial letter. The lady was very nice and even explained in not so many words that "when" you are denied, you may apply with the County, which has less strict good cause requirements. Keep in mind that you probably don't want a SBPD CCW anyways. Their application stated that you may be restricted on hours when you are allowed to carry and where you are allowed to carry, and you need to qualify on their range (much more restrictive than SBSO). Hope this helps. |

Tossed the app in the round file and moved out of the City. Easier and less hassle in the long run!!!

Ok guys, I'm gonna go into the SBPD office tomorrow morning. But, on a side note... I have a Ruger P90 that I was going to put on my CCW (not my primary weapon though) and my wife bought it for me back when we lived in Arizona. So the gun is from another state and is in her name. Does anyone know if I will have any issues with putting the gun on my CCW? My thoughts are that it will be fine since the gun doesn't break any CA regs and we are still married. But, I figured its worth asking.
