Default New from Nevada County

Hello there! I just found this site this morning, as I completed my CCW class yesterday and this website was mentioned. My husband and I are going to apply for our CCWs and wonder how the process is in Nevada County? I saw Lester's post and it looks like it wasn't too much of a hassle.

I'm wondering what the specific process is - go to the county office and get an application, fill it out, bring it back, then what? Is there a written test (we passed our shooting test 100%)? Do we have to provide references?

Any information would be appreciated.

We both take the CCW very seriously and want to make sure we do the right thing. I just got into shooting a couple years ago and love it! We practice a lot and are always trying to improve our skills.

This is a great place to start...and I'm sure someone here will give you the scoop on what you need.

Welcome to the forum

Do a search Nevada county ccw application. I found it but do not know how to add the link for you. It looks the same as the one for Butte County except Butte's says there is no interview. You can just print this app. out and turn it in. You should have took the written test at your ccw class. It looks like your county is ccw friendly do to all the approved ccw classes. The class I took they went through everything step by step even told us what the sheriff told them for us to put down as good cause. Very ccw friendly in Butte county. Good luck.

First of all, welcome Susieshooter,

Yes, it is not too much hassle and better than in Urban county but it is not easy to get either. You can download Nevada county policy and application and it is very helpfull and will give you an idea whether you can qualify or not.

I hope the CCW class you attended is in the approved list of the Sherrif dept.

Are you located in an incorporated city of Nevada County? Do you have a Police Dept? If you do, you need to apply to the Police Dept not the Sheriff Dept.

In Truckee for example, no written test is required, but you need a certificate that said you qualify for the guns you wish to carry and must be included in the application.
No references required either.
You submit and wait for their response.

Thanks everyone! I am in an unincorporated area of the county and the CCW class I completed is on their approved list. I have looked at that Nevada County link and have printed it out. I was wondering if there was something I missed, though, as I didn't see any mention of a test or references. Guess I'll give the Sheriff's office a call tomorrow and see what they say.

I believe the only test is the one to pass the ccw course. If there are no spaces for references you probably don't need them. Of course you can always call. my sheriff's department was very friendly

Welcome Susie! I'm in the Penn Valley area often. Do you use The Range in GV? PM me if you two are looking for shooting partners. Good luck with the application and keep us posted...

Hi Sacmedic! Yes, we go to The Range - sometimes once or twice a week...it can get quite addictive!!

Are you going to try to get a CCW? I'll keep updating my progress for Nevada County, in case anyone is interested.
