I do need to point out that there are a couple politicians who frequent this board and have proven time and again that they are firm allys in this fight. It would be irresponsible for me not to point that out for those who come late to this site.

CRPA's (California Rifle and Pistol Association) website had stated that this bill had passed the senate. This is not correct and they have since corrected the web page. The senate public safety will here this on 6-30.

Regardless this is still a bad piece of legislation. Keep pounding them.

So I should message my state senator. Forgive me, I understand our federal government's structure... I don't understand California's... do I have a specific senator or are they all my senators? If the former, how do I figure out which one I need to contact?

I think its a little late but I would image you would want to hit up the public safety commity first?

There was a list floating around on who to contact on calguns or something... can anyone confirm?

The bill is now being heard on 7/7 by the Senate Safety committee. Their contact info is here: STANDING Committee

Kappy, you have a specific senator in California, but all the members of the committee should hear your opinion. You can find your specific senator here: http://192.234.213.69/smapsearch/framepage.asp

I went ahead and contacted several senators. I love how they want you to declare whether you support or oppose whatever piece of legislation you're asking about. It makes it easier for them to send back form letters.

Looks like it passed the Senate Safety committee, but it has now been referred to Committee on Appropriations.

This is getting scary. This seems to have made it much farther in the process than it has the last several years that DeLeon has introduced this bill.

Senate Appropriations killed it last year. We have to push for it to be killed with them again this year. It was suspended due to exceeding the max cost barrier. Considering that we are financially worse off this year than last we can leverage this to suspend again.

For something to make so little sense in the first place, then for it to be turned down only because of cost...imagine how we'd be living if our state was well off.

When is Appropriations meeting...this month?

This is the latest from the NRA:

Please Contact the Senate Appropriations Committee!

Earlier today, the Senate Public Safety Committee passed Assembly Bill 962. The bill now moves to the Senate Appropriations Committee for consideration. No hearing date has been scheduled.

AB962, sponsored by Assembly Member Kevin De Leon (D-45), would make it a crime to privately transfer more than 50 rounds of ammunition per month, even between family and friends, unless you are registered as a “handgun ammunition vendor” in the Department of Justice’s database. Ammunition retailers would have to be licensed and store ammunition in such a manner that it would be inaccessible to purchasers. The bill would also require purchasers submit to fingerprinting, which would be kept in dealers' records and subject to inspection by the Department of Justice. Lastly, mail order ammunition sales would be prohibited.
Please contact the members of the Senate Appropriations Committee TODAY and respectfully urge them to oppose AB962. Contact information can be found below.

The best form is all of the above - the State Senators need to be inundated with contact.

Phone is generally considered the most effective. But, as RickD points out, all of the above are good, generally in the order you have them listed.
