Default Who is responsible for your safety?

On other gun boards the topic of "NO GUNS" signs comes up frequently. Many posters feel that if a business is posted and you disarm, and then subsequently get shot in the store, the store owner can be held liable and it turns into a big payday for you. I usually put up the argument that running a business is all about managing risk and there is more risk from not posting the signs. Take off your gun guy hat and put on your Quickie Mart Owner hat and answer the following question:

Which situation is worse for me in a civil suit:

A) I post the business and make it clear that firearms are not permitted and an innocent person with a CCW (firearm left in the car), gets shot by the bad guy.

B) I don't post the business and a soccer mom/school teacher gets shot by the bad guy.

This isn't a big issue in California ....yet, but as more "regular" people get permits I can see more restrictions down the road.

The Store can not and will not be hled be held liable for your safety. The US Supreme Court says Law Enforcement can't be held to that standard. No court in this country can hold a shop owner to a higher standard.

Gonzales V. Castle Rock. Law Enforcecment is here to protect Society, NOT the individual. This is the lastest of several US Supreme Court cases that use the above statement to deny the claim. The first case this was used in dates back to 1959.
