Step back a bit and look at it as though you're reading the news story.

Legal compliance or not, you don't want to do this.

If your car is stolen, you have full sympathy.
If your firearm goes with the car, is discovered, and used for nefarious purpose - that sympathy turns to scorn.

Since much of firearm prosecution is political, you really don't want that to happen, and neither do any of us want it to happen to you.

By Penal code, your trunk is not a locked container for handgun. As everybody else said, No.

not for CCW purposes, but for to/from range carry...

a Jeep (wrangler type), is like a van (in sad way)... has NO trunk...
BUT the 2007 and newer models have a locking storage in the back floor... when the back gate is closed (and locked with a key) the storage bin in the floor can NOT be accessed. The locked door/tailgate is directly over the leading edge (door/lid) of the compartment in the floor.

So, my question (again for non CCW)
but transport only of a UNLoaded hand gun, seperated from ammo, would the weapon need to be in ANOTHER locked case, inside that locked bin...?

Either way, its a nice hiding place for a "official locking gun case" to be stored.

That sounds like the physical equivalent of a trunk.

If you are gonna carry in the glove box of your car must have CCW or you will be charged with CCW, as a "flip/flop" crime in California you are better off with carrying it in a locked case unloaded in the trunk of your car for those who drive trucks in the utility box or in the center consoul so good luck to ya.

No such thing as a flip/flop crime.
