Default Firearms Attorney in Nothern Calif.

If I was in need of a lawyer that specialized in firearms and was in northern California I would only use.

The Law Offices of Don Kilmer
1645 Willow Street, Suite 150
San Jose, CA 95125
408-264-8489

That my only choice other than Bruce Colodny in the state.

Good heads-up CCWI. Even San Jose is a 5-6 hour trip to my location (and that is when Tioga Pass is open during the summer), but it is another option.

Thanks

You could have a summer lawyer and a winter lawyer.

Being new to CCW the more I train, and educate myself the more I relies the need for a lawyer should I need to defend myself. My question is weather it is sufficient to just write a lawyer’s name and number down or should they be contacted now so they don’t receive a blind (panic) call if their services are ever needed. Thanks.

x2!! That's a great question. I'd love to hear what others (especially CCWI & those with a JD and Bar number) have to say on the subject!

My thought was at a minimum to have the business card of a well-known firearms lawyer in my wallet right next to the CCW Permit(in the event I get one)

Default Don Kilmer

Don Kilmer was president of the NRA Silicon Valley member's council a few years back.

He is very active in gun rights, from what I heard from other attorneys, he is a outstanding trial court lawyer.

Don Kilmer has a realistic view of the legal system and he will tell you how it really is, even though what he says often are things you may not want to hear.

The DA's offices in all of the SF Bay counties are hostile to gun owners and will use the law to persecute gun owners any chance they get.

I took CCW1s advice when in class. I have the card of Mr. Colodny and like life insurance, I hope to never need his services. I also entered him in my cell phone under CCW lawyer should I ever have an immediate need. I work off of good referrels and It appears he does as well.

What CCWI said. Do not contact them until you have a need. Chances are, you will never need them, so you don't want to bother them with unnecessary phone calls. Check the California Bar Association website periodically to make sure they are still in business, and try to have an alternative attorney to call in the event that the #1 guy on your list can't fit you in. calbar.ca.gov

Remember, when faced with a situation where you have used your firearm and the police have arrived, whether or not you are arrested:

1. Be polite.
2. Be polite and ask for a lawyer. Then shut up.
3. Be polite and firmly ask for a lawyer again. Then shut up.
4. Be polite and shut up until the lawyer arrives.
5. Did I mention being polite and shutting up?

I am not your attorney, so do not take anything I say as legal advice.

Don Kilmer is a seriously good guy. He speaks often at the GS2AC meetings. I have no doubt he is an awesome, and well-respected attorney.
